Requirements for Kerouac Haiku

“Holding up my

purring cat to the moon

I sighed.”

· 3 short lines

· Does NOT have to follow the traditional syllable requirements of a real haiku

· Must be visual, vivid, concrete

· Must be about the “important” things in life, those little magical, special, rare, memorable, meaningful moments

· 10 poems for practice

· Circle your best one that you want to put into our class poetry book (PLEASE indicate if you want your name published with the poem, or if you want it to be anonymous)
