STATE REP JULIE PARRISH RE-ELECTED TO LEADERSHIP ROLE WITH WOMEN IN GOVERNMENT

January 1st, 2014 --- Rep. Julie Parrish ( R-West Linn/Tualatin) was re-elected as a 2014 State Director with Women In Government by her fellow state legislative colleagues this past year.

Elected State Directors with Women in Government work to keep other elected women officials in both parties apprised of best practices in state government across a variety of legislative issues ranging from education to healthcare to energy policy.

“By sharing best practices, and frankly, even the failures, from other states, participating in Women in Government has been a great opportunity to meet with Republican and Democratic women legislators from across the nation to find what can work to serve our communities,” Parrish stated.

Women In Government provides conferences that feature expert speakers on a variety of public policy topics and their impact on states. Rep. Parrish will be in attendance at the regional conference this week in Arizona.

Rep. Parrish plans on sharing with other state legislators her work to launch an urban hardwood forestry initiative in Clackamas County. Parrish hopes her initiative will become an emerging Oregon industry in the coming years. “The Clackamas Urban Hardwoods project has very positive economic implications for Oregon, but I’m hoping to connect the pilot with other legislators from across the country that might see it as an opportunity for their states as well,” Parrish said. “I’ve already got some interest from a legislator in Atlanta, Georgia and I’m hoping she can kick-start a similar pilot to what we’re launching in Oregon. That’s the power of an organization like Women in Government.”
