Release notes for Sense Notetaker version 7.0

New Features:

1. Google Maps Application: The Google Maps application is located in the “Extras” menu. Google Maps is a basic navigational application that allows you to plan and save routes for reference as you travel. If GPS is available, either via its presence on the notetaker itself or via a Bluetooth receiver, you can use it to acquire your position on the go. You can also use this application to search for points of interest and save them for later use. Note: you must have internet access to access map data. For more information on the Google Maps application, please see section 15.3 of the 7.0 user manual.

2. Bookshare Search and Download application: This application is also located in the “Extras” menu, and provides direct search and download access to the repository of books and periodicals contained on bookshare.org. You can log in to the application using your Bookshare username and password, or log in as “Anonymous” and access the public domain material contained in the collection. Use the “Options” settings to set default download type (DAISY or BRF), the default download location, and whether or not to automatically unzip books on download. See section 15.2 of the 7.0 user manual for more information on the “Bookshare Download” application.

3. Support for IMAP e-mail: The Sense Notetaker email program now supports IMAP email. Note the following hot keys:

Switch from offline to online mode: “Enter-dots-1-2-3” (Alt-L)

Receive new mail: “Enter-dots-1-3-4-5” (Alt-M)

Receive older mail: “Backspace-dots-1-2-3-4” (Alt-E)

Move to previous account category: “Backspace-dots-1-2-6” (Alt-FN-Up arrow)

Move to next account category: “Backspace-3-4-5” (Alt-FN-Down arrow)

Move to previous mailbox: “Enter-dots-1-2-6” (Control-FN-Up arrow)

Move to next mailbox: “Enter-dots-3-4-5” (Control-FN-Down arrow)

Options have also been added to the Accounts Manager to accommodate the addition of IMAP servers, and new settings have been added to the “Set options” dialog: for example, “Get the number of mail at once”. See Section 8 of the 7.0 user manual for more information on how to configure and use IMAP email.

4. EML Viewer in File Manager:

You can now view email messages directly from the “File Manager”. Simply press “Enter” to open a message. Use “Tab (F3)” and “Shift-Tab (Space-F3)” to move through the various headers of an email message and the available actions. Press “Enter-F” (Control-F) to forward a message, and “Enter-R” (Control-R) to reply to a message. See section 4.2.19 of the 7.0 user manual for more information on the EML viewer.

5. Nemeth Braille and Fraction Options in the Calculator:

5.1 Nemeth Braille: Use “Space-G” (FN-G) to change the braille code.

The following Nemeth Braille symbols apply when entering/reading mathematical expressions:

1. Equal : Dots-4-5-1-3

2. Pi: Dots-4-6, Dots-1-2-3-4

3. Divide by: Dots-4-6, Dots-3-4

4. Multiply: Dot-4, Dots-1-6

5. Percent: Dot-4, Dots-3-5-6

6. Terminator(Mixed number): Dots-4-5-6, Dots-3-4-5-6

7. Decimal point: Dots-4-6

8. Square root Indicator: Dots-3-4-5

9. Square root Terminator: Dots-1-2-4-5-6

10. Power: Dots-4-5

11. Arc sine: 'asin' or 'arcsin’

12. Arc cosine: 'acos' or 'arccos’

13. Arc tangent: 'atan' or 'arctan'

5.2 Entering Fractions:

a. Computer Braille Mode

We have also added a menu item for calling fraction options, and a Braille code option in the “Option Settings” dialog. The calculator also now contains a “Return Formula” function which returns the expression entered to achieve the currently displayed result. See section 17.1 for more information on the additions to the calculator.

6. Additional Language Support:

In addition to Spanish, version 7.0 also supports reading/writing in Italian, French, and German. Change the TTS language using the “Language” setting in the “Global options” or use “Backspace-Enter-V” (Control-Alt-V) to change the TTS language from anywhere on the notetaker. Change the Braille language using the “Braille Code” setting in the “Global Options” or Use “Backspace-Enter-B” (Control-Alt-B) to change the Braille language from anywhere on the unit. See sections 3.2.5 and 3.2.7 of the user manual for further information. The Italian and French bilingual dictionaries are also now supported.

7. Additions to the Word Processor:

7.1 Password protected files: Set a password in the “Settings” dialog of the “File” menu, then save your file using the “HPF” file type to create a password protected file. See section 5.1.5. of the user manual for further information.

7.2 View format characters: Turn “View Format Characters” on in the “Settings” dialog of the “File” menu and view format attributes on the Braille display. Format characters appear as follows:

7.3 Edit Language Attribute:

You can also now change the language attributed to a block of text. After selecting the desired text, use “Backspace-Enter-I” to change the language attributed to that text. See section 5.2.15 of the user manual for further information.

7.4 Word Count:

You can now access the Word count in the cursor location query along with Sentence, Paragraph, Line, etc. See section 5.7 of the User Manual for more information.

8. Terminal Clipboard: (Only applies to Braille Sense models)

The “Terminal Clipboard” is a function of the “Terminal for Screen Reader” that allows the user to input and edit data on the Braille Sense, then send it as a block of text to the connected computer, PDA or iPhone. Press “Space-Enter-I” (Control-FN-I) to start the “Terminal Clipboard” when in Terminal Mode. Either type or paste text using normal edit commands. When done, press “Enter” to send the block of text to your connected device. See section 17.9.1 of the 7.0 User Manual for more information on the “Terminal Clipboard”.

9. Miscellaneous Changes/Additions:

1. Removed the Sense Navigation 2010 program in V7.0, opens a message describing sense NAV and how to obtain it.

2. Inserted the function to search derivations of words in Sense Dictionary. (example, crated as opposed to create)

3. Inserted the “Delete all Schedule” function in Schedule Manager. Hotkey, “Backspace-

Enter-Q” (Control-Alt-Q).

4. Inserted the “Main Volume” option. (Global hotkey that controls master volume independent of voice and media) Hot-key: “Backspace-space-F1” and “Backspace-space-F4” (Windows-F6 and Windows-Shift-F6)

5. Added “Radio” and “Daisy” option settings to “backup/restore personalized settings”

6. Changed the “backup” hot-key from enter-u to enter-b in “backup/Restore Personalized

setting”

7. Display Compass heading: Changed to not display a decimal point.(Braille Sense OnHand,

Voice Sense QWERTY)

8. In DAISY player, Added the function to open the “Sense Dictionary” in the contents status.

9. Inserted the function to clear “Visited links” information when the “Clear cookies.” Option is activated.

10. Fixes

1. Fixed the problem of inability to search for words with punctuation marks and words in past tense in Sense Dictionary.

2. Fixed the problem of inability to add to the favorites list in Twitter.

3. Fixed the problem of not being able to execute the “Angle” unit option in the calculator.

4. Fixed the problem of inability to download from Bookshare and NLS websites.

5. Fixed Mass Storage connectivity to the Mac.

6. Fixed the problem of security alert dialog boxes appearing and hanging up the unit when opening web pages in the Web Browser.
