POSITION: Quality Control Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director, Manufacturing Excellence

SUMMARY: The Quality Control Engineer is a member of the corporate quality control team ensuring that the final products meet all customer specifications and performance requirements prior to products reaching the customer. The Quality Control Engineer works with a team of personnel to accurately and effectively produce exceptional quality standards in order for the manufacturing team to produce products or services that meet the customers’ expectations. The Quality Control Engineer will develop key quality metrics, procedures and processes, and will audit products and employees to ensure they adhere to the quality control standards.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

Responsibilities:

The following is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities that are expected of the position. However, additional duties may be assigned, as required.

· Plan, create, evaluate, implement and oversee all activities concerned with the development, application and maintenance of quality standards/metrics.

· Develop quality control systems designed to ensure final products meet customer specifications and performance requirements.

· Develop and analyze test data to ensure our products meet customer specifications. Use data to improve product performance standards and establish quality and reliability expectancy for finished products.

· Provide technical expertise to Quality Control Team Members.

· Audit test procedures as needed to ensure compliance of quality control processes.

· Audit customer orders to ensure product design meets internal assembly standards and technical performance standards.

· Audit manufacturing adherence to quality specifications.

· Identify proper tools used in product testing.

· Consult with Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales team members and/or Field Service Technicians, and any other departments necessary to resolve customer complaints and address field service technical problems.

· Meet with customers as needed to resolve quality issues.

· Participate in Warranty Training for field service technicians as needed.

· Investigate quality failures through root cause analysis (RCA) and create corrective actions and preventive actions (CAPA).

· Provide process improvements to address/prevent quality failures.

· Approach the job with the ability to ensure Continuous Improvement.

· Utilize statistical analysis to maintain stable quality processes.

Preferred Education and Experience:

It is required that an individual in this position have attained a minimum of an accredited engineering, mathematics or applied science degree, preferably in mechanical, electrical, computer, industrial or any other closely related discipline. A Master’s in Business with quality experience would also be acceptable in lieu of a math, science or engineering degree.

Education beyond the minimum is an added advantage for career development activities.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a quality engineering or manufacturing engineering position directly responsible for establishing quality management processes or standards.

Certification as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher preferred.

Experience in Quality, ISO, Lean, Statistical Process Control and Continuous Improvement methodologies are preferred.

ASQ CQE Certification preferred.

Employee will consistently demonstrate competency when engaged in the following critical and important tasks.

Experience with Quality Software Systems such as Minitab.

Critical Tasks:

· Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service.

· Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality.

· Instruct quality control persons engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.

· Devise sampling procedures for inspecting products and services.

· Provide technical expertise to Quality Control Team Members.

· Formulate, document and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives. Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures.

· Coordinate objectives with end of line test, engineering, quality assurance and manufacturing procedures in cooperation with manufacturing personnel to maximize product reliability and minimize warranty costs.

· Ability to analyze data and make decisions affecting quality.

· Work with suppliers to verify incoming part specifications are met.

· Work with internal supply chain personnel to ensure all purchased parts meet engineering and quality specifications (this includes developing processes and procedures for incoming product inspections).

· Work with engineering designers/specifiers to ensure supplier part specifications accurately define the quality needed for purchased parts.

· Work with internal departments to ensure internally manufactured parts meet performance specifications and quality metrics.

Important Tasks:

· Define Audits for final products.

· Apply total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes.

· Interact with quality assurance team members and manufacturing personnel to ensure quality assembly and testing of all products.

· Ability to bend, climb stairs, stand for extensive periods, walk around the assembly floor, and lift/carry up to fifty pounds.

Critical Unique Knowledge:

· Ability to do Root Cause Analysis (RCA) when responding to quality failures.

· Experience with developing/documenting quality procedures.

· Use of Quality inspection methods.

· Computer proficiency for developing reports, control charts and other data analytics.

· Statistical Process Control Experience.

Important Unique Knowledge:

· The Quality Control Engineer possesses the skill of an engineer, problem solver, auditor and inspector. The Quality Control Engineer also possesses excellent analytical skills. He/she has the ability to communicate well with others in person or through written work.

· The Quality Control Engineer should have a high quality orientation and high attention to detail.
