The Oakland Unified School District offers many programs and services outside of the classroom that support the learning and success of students and their families. The following resources at the Oakland Unified School Districts can help families access the support they need to help them achieve their learning goals.

Provides information about health and nutrition in schools and tips on how to improve your family’s health; health programs and regulations in schools; and where to apply for health insurance.
·  Vaccinations: Call to get a list of free clinics in Oakland that offer free TB tests and give free vaccinations to children.

Oakland Adult and Career Education Office
Provides free or low-cost classes and training programs that are designed to be flexible. Classes are offered at hours and locations that are convenient to working adults. Provides alternative to traditional comprehensive high school. There are several different options of alternative education schools within OUSD including:
·  Continuation high schools (16-18 yrs old who are at risk of not graduating)
·  Alternative schools of choice (voluntary programs to meet students’ individual needs),
·  Community day schools (serving expelled students, court or probation-referred students)
·  Independent study (study independently under the supervision of a credentialed teacher)
·  Home and hospital (for students medically incapable of attending traditional schools)
·  TAP Center (Temporary placement for students involved in formal disciplinary process’)

OUSD Parent Centers
A number of schools have set up Parent Centers where families can access resources for themselves and their children. Some of these parent centers are organized and staffed by the OUSD Family & Community Office, while others are organized by individual schools. Ask at your child’s school to see if they have a Parent center and to see what resources it provides.
