Proverbs from Ancient Egypt

DIRECTIONS: Please complete the writing for any two proverbs.

1. Stay away from hostile people. Keep your heart quiet among fighters.

· What could it mean to “keep your heart quiet”?

2. If you are a leader of a group of people, treat them well. Do not treat them unjustly; justice is something great.

· Why might the leader of a group need this advice?

· Why do you think the proverb says that for a leader “justice is something great”?

3. When you rise from lower ranks to higher positions, grow rich after being poor, do not forget your past. Do not be proud of your wealth and do not be arrogant. Remember you are no better than your mates who have fallen back into poverty.

4. Do not repeat calumny or listen to it. It is the spouting of the foolish.
