Types of Users

A standard EPM deployment has three main types of users:

Project Web Access (PWA) Users

These are typically all users other than project managers such as project team members or executives monitoring project progress. PWA users can access the EPM solution through a browser or their local Outlook 2003 or 2007 client (Outlook access requires Seamless Office Integration – see Client Setup Requirements).

Project Professional (Pro) Users

Pro users are typically project managers. They can access the EPM solution the same way as PWA users or through a Project 2007 Professional client running on their PC. For an additional fee, Pro users may also access a Remote Desktop or Citrix session running Project 2007 Professional.

Administrators

Like Pro users, Administrators can access the EPM solution through PWA, Outlook, or Project Professional. However, Administrators have additional permissions to provision users and configure the EPM solution with custom views and templates.

Client Setup Requirements

The following configurations are required on your PC (client) or in the security of your local network to use the EPM solution:

Browser Requirement

Internet Explorer 5.1 or higher must be running on your PC.

Active-X Controls

You must accept one or more Active-X controls signed by Microsoft. Upon acceptance, these controls will be downloaded into your browser. You may need to be logged in as the administrator of your PC to accept these controls.

Trust the Site

Inside Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Security> Trusted sites.

·  If you want to use Outlook Integration or OLAP functionality, then click on Custom Level … , make sure that the bottom setting User Authentication: Logon is set to Automatic logon with current username and password.

·  If you want to use OLAP functionality, then click on Custom Level … , make sure that the Miscellaneous setting Access data sources across domains is set to Enable.

·  Click on Sites and then add the Hosted Server. Even if you do not do the above two steps, this last step is necessary for Project Professional and PWA access.

Seamless Office Integration

Users with administrative access to their PC running Windows XP or Vista Professional can enable seamless Office integration. This allows users to (a) access EPM through Outlook, (b) automatically connect Project Professional to Project Server, (c) use OLAP from PWA, and (d) avoid authentication prompts when opening SharePoint documents. To do this:

·  Log in as the Administrator of your PC (this is often the default account, but you must be logged in as Administrator to have this functionality)

·  In your Control Panel, click on User Accounts

·  Click on the Administrator account and under Related Tasks on the left, click on Manage my Network Passwords

·  Add your EPM Address along with the EPM user name and password provided to you by your administrator. If you do not know your administrator, please email

Project Professional Setup

You must set up a Project Server account in Project Professional to connect for the first time.

·  Launch Project Pro and go to Tools > Enterprise Options > MS Office Project Server Accounts.

·  Click Add then enter a name like “Hosted Project Server”. Enter your Project Server URL. Check Use Windows user account. Check Set as default account. Click OK.

·  If you enabled Seamless Office Integration (see above) and would like Project Professional to automatically connect to the Project Server, check Automatically detect connection state, then click OK. If you did not enable Seamless Office Integration, then choose Manually control connection state.

Outlook Setup

Seamless Office Integration (see above) is required to access EPM through Outlook. You must also enter the following configuration settings:

·  From your PWA home page, click on Personal Settings then Set up Outlook Synch

·  Download the Outlook PWA add-in

·  Within Outlook on your local PC, choose Tools > Options > Project Web Access > Advanced Options [for Outlook 2007] > Enter Login Information

·  Enter your Project Server URL, check Use Windows User Account, and click OK.

·  If you try to import your assignments into Outlook, and the import fails producing a SOAP error, this may be caused by Enterprise Custom Codes having the "Roll down" option enabled (RBS and Team Name have this option enabled by default). Try the following for all Custom Codes (or codes you have edited): In Project Server Admin, find Calculation for Assignment Rows, and set it to None.

Setup for OLAP Data Analysis through PWA

Trusting the site with Custom Level settings and Seamless Office Integration (see above) are both required in order to use the OLAP functionality of PWA. You must also the have on your PC the MSXML 6.0 Parser and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLEDB Provider.

·  Check to see if you already have them by going to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and looking for those programs.

·  To download the MSXML 6.0 Parser, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&displaylang=en

·  To download the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLEDB Provider, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d09c1d60-a13c-4479-9b91-9e8b9d835cdc&displaylang=en . For standard, non-64-bit PCs, download the X86 package.

·  Use the OLAP custom server URL as the custom server entry for any OLAP views you create in PWA.

Portfolio Server Setup

Some of the functionality of Portfolio Server requires invoking Excel resources on your local PC. The following settings allow for this:

·  Launch Excel on your PC then go to Tools > Macro > Security > Trusted Publishers tab, and make sure that both checkboxes are checked.

·  Quit Excel before launching Portfolio Server.

·  If you are using IE 7 on Vista, then go to Tools > Internet Options > Security, and Disable Protected Mode.

Remote Desktop or Citrix Access

To access the solution using Remote Desktop or Citrix, a user’s local firewall, proxy server, and/or ISA server must permit outbound access through port 3389 or 443 to the Remote Desktop server. For more information, your administrator should refer to the Admin Guide provided by Project Hosts.

Access to the EPM Solution

Your EPM Username and Password

Your company’s administrator will give you your username and password. Email if you do not know your administrator. Important: When logging in, you must type g1\ in front of your username (example username: g1\firstname.lastname)

Via PWA

Browse to your Project Server URL and enter your EPM username and password to access PWA.

Via Outlook

After Setup (above), Outlook should automatically synchronize to your hosted Project Server.

Via Project Professional

Project Professional should automatically connect to your hosted Project Server if you enabled Seamless Office Integration (see above). Without Seamless Office Integration, you should get a login prompt upon launching Project Professional. Check Enter user credentials and then enter your EPM username and password to connect.

Via Remote Desktop

Browse to your EPM Portal and enter your EPM username and password when prompted. You will have links on your EPM Portal to access your environment through Remote Desktop or Citrix if you have chosen those options for your organization. The portal also has File Upload and Download capabilities that allow you to transfer files from your local PC to the Project Professional client on the Remote Desktop.

Help and Support

Your EPM portal has a Help link in the header bar. This will take you to a self-selective interface that will direct you to the correct resource to resolve your issue.

If you cannot access the Help interface or you require assistance with any other issues, email and reference your Deployment ID.
