Bostock Singers bring Harmonies from Hartford to St Pater’s Church

On Saturday 29th April the barrel roof of St Peter’s Church, Little Budworth rang with the harmonies of the Bostock Singers, according to Canon Chris Humphries. He was praising the local choir at the end of a vibrant, fun concert held to raise funds for the restoration of the church organ.

The 2016 winners of the St Luke’s Hospice Last Choir Standing Competition yet again provided an evening of varied musical pieces, creating what Canon Cox described as a “musical rainbow”.

The choir has extended its repertoire recently and their popular versions of “Both Sides Now” and “The Wind Beneath My Wings” and an energetic rendition of the traditional South African “Siyahamba” were thoroughly enjoyed by the full audience of parishioners and friends of the church and choir.

Tim Houlbrooke, one of the choir’s Bass section, also serenaded the audience with two popular Elvis hits.

Parishioner and Bostock Singers’ choir member, Anne Hall, who was instrumental in setting up the concert, is delighted to report that the £500 raised exceeded all hopes.

Musical Director, Nicola Howbrigg, said she really appreciated the effect created by the wonderful acoustics of the church’s curved barrel roof. She conducted the choir with great skill and enjoyment, concluding with their competition winning version of “Run”.

It was the first occasion for new Assistant Pianist, Emily Peak, a Lower Sixth Sir John Deane’s music student, to join Peter Drew in accompanying the Choir and she showed both talent and sensitivity in her playing.

Bostock Singers next perform in Frodsham’s St. Lawrence’s Church on Saturday 17th June and will conclude this season’s series of concerts on Tuesday 11th July in St. John’s Church,Over, Winsford. Details of all concerts are available on: www.bostock-singers.co.uk. Secretary: Shirley Barnwell:
