Prepare Now for Athletics in College

There are many options to pursue collegiate athletics, with or without scholarship. This quick guide is intended to help students and parents start to understand the process, and take appropriate steps toward collegiate athletics throughout high school. Please pursue further resources including your counselors, your coaches, and the listed websites.

NCAA

Eligibility requirements:

· Core Courses—16 units of specific, NCAA-approved courses must be completed

· ACT/SAT scores (Division I uses a sliding scale, Div. II requires an ACT sum score of 68)

· GPA in “Core Courses” (Division I uses a sliding scale, Division II requires 2.00)

· Amateur status

NAIA

Eligibility Requirements: students must meet two of the three:

· Achieve a minimum of 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT in a single test date.

· Graduate in the top half of your high school class

· High School GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

NJCAA (Junior College)

Eligibility Requirements: “Due to the unique academic and athletic situation of each individual, and the complexity of the NJCAA eligibility rules, it is recommended that each potential student-athlete discuss their athletic eligibility with the athletic personnel at the NJCAA college where they have chosen to attend. Should the athletic staff have any questions in determining an individual's eligibility, the college may contact the NJCAA National Office for assistance.”
