PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time
Year A
Invitation to Prayer:
My brothers and sisters,
to the God of wisdom and love,
who has given us the treasure of faith,
let us address our prayers and petitions
for the needs of the Church and the salvation of all people.
Concluding Prayer:
God of eternal wisdom,
who alone impart the gift of right judgment,
grant us an understanding heart,
that we may value wisely
the treasure of your kingdom
and gladly forgo all lesser gifts
to possess that kingdom's incomparable joy.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or:
With Jesus we give you thanks,
Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for revealing to the righteous
the hidden mysteries of your kingdom.
Give us the humility to recognize our needs,
the wisdom to discern between good and evil,
and the cunning to seek your kingdom above all else,
that we may be surprised
by the discovery of your gracious love.
Through Christ our Lord.

Deacon or Reader:
1. For the Church, witness to the treasure of God’s Kingdom,
for all who seek the pearl of God’s joy and wisdom;
and for the Church in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
We pray to the Lord.
2. For those who engender hope and enthusiasm in the midst of despair and sadness;
for government leaders and diplomats who work for peace;
and for those committed to live and proclaim the values of the gospel.
We pray to the Lord.
3. For those in any need or distress,
for all who seek basic human rights and freedom of worship;
for the victims of forest fires in British Columbia;
and for those experiencing famine and drought.
We pray to the Lord.
4. For all Christians who seek the values of Christ’s kingdom
and praise God’s transforming power in this Eucharist;
for the sick and home-bound;
and for those losing their jobs in our communities.
We pray to the Lord.
5. For farmers and gardeners;
for suitable weather for the crops;
and for abundant crops and a bountiful harvest to feed all people.
We pray to the Lord.
6. For the spiritual and physical well-being of all parishioners;
for the visitors among us;
for those who have died recently,
and for those who have suffered loss.
We pray to the Lord.

for all Christians who seek the values of Christ’s kingdom
