Subject: Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT)
Topic: Pallet jacks/low-lift trucks
Question: Do non-powered and powered walk-behind material/pallet movers require daily inspections?
Answer: Part 21 pertains only to powered industrial trucks, not to non-powered trucks. Rule 2171(1) reads, “At the start of each shift, the operator of a powered industrial truck or a qualified employee shall perform daily checks of the equipment as required by the employer. See Appendix B for suggested inspection checklist. “ In all cases it is recommended that the employer use and maintain all equipment, based on the manufacturer’s specifications.
