POSITION: PARKS & RECREATION WORKER

(Full Time – Temporary w/Possibility of becoming permanent)

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation Department GRADE: 5 ($8.15-12.10)

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager and/or Designee STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position is responsible for the completion of the daily scheduled and unscheduled grounds maintenance of the Bay Mills Indian Community. The Parks and Recreation Worker will assist with outdoor recreational activities, and other maintenance functions of the Bay Mills Indian Community as designated by Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains community appearance by picking up papers and trash; maintaining the lawn and surrounding landscape; water ice rink(s); maintains parks and playground general maintenance and upkeep.

2. Reports supply orders to manager.

3. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

4. Removes snow/debris from rinks, walkways, parking lots, and structures.

5. Assists with maintenance snowmobile trails and rides along in the snow groomer.

6. Assist with the maintaining and support of recreational activities and facilities.

7. Will assist with carpentry projects as needed and designated by Manager.

8. Responsible for arriving to work station on time.

9. Must punch in and out at the beginning and end of each shift using electronic time keeping system.

10. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position’s or Maintenance Department’s essential functions.

11. Must attend all mandatory trainings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand with occasional sitting. Occasionally the employee must squat, crawl, crouch, and kneel with frequent bending, climbing, balancing, and push/pulling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds while occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery, marked changes in temperature and humidity, dust, fumes, and gases.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

2. Pursuit of an Associate’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field of study and or carpentry experience/degree preferred.

3. Required to have a Valid Michigan Driver’s License and be insurable to drive without restrictions.

4. Experience in grounds keeping, maintenance or landscaping desired.

5. Must possess a personable, customer service attitude along with organizational ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

6. Must present a well-groomed, professional appearance and speak, understand and write in the English language.

7. Excellent communication skills required.

8. Must have an excellent past work record and attendance record demonstrated through references.

9. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to those of Native American descent.
