Job Title: Project Accountant / Location: AnchorageReports To: Accounting Manager / Department: Finance
Schedule: Regular, Full-Time, M – F, 8am -5pm / FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
The Project Accountant will maintain project and general ledger records. Monitor cost, funding, revenue recognition. Prepare project reports, general ledger reconciliations, and audit work papers for a growing company with multiple projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Prepare & enter manual or standard bills into Costpoint.
· Communicate any discrepancies with the manager.
· Calculate monthly fee bills and prepare A/P check requests.
· Prepare intercompany elimination journal entry.
· Prepare project ledger to GL reconciliations.
· Prepare month-end journal entries.
· Assist with annual insurance renewal and provide insurance rates to subsidiaries
· Review A/P vouchers for accuracy and proper coding.
· Track and monitor active projects.
· Setup new projects according to contract terms.
· Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
· Assist with research or duties as needed to support intercompany activities.
· Perform complex analysis.
· Prepare sales and use tax returns or gross receipt tax returns as needed.
· Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
· Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
· Costpoint Database training, G/L experience, Experience with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
· Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with employees, business partners, and clients via written and verbal communication methods.
· Advanced knowledge and skills in computerized accounting systems and knowledge of company-specific software. Proficiency in standard computer software, application programs and e-mail. Typing 45 wpm and 10-key by touch.
· Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
· Comprehensive computer skills are required for this position.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
· Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information. Ability to use judgment and discretion.
· Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
· Effective management of accounting staff.
· Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; or,
· Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and G/L, in lieu of degree.
· 4 Years of experience in accounting and G/L with a degree.
· Experience working for a large company or other Native Corporation preferred.
· Experience with Deltek Costpoint preferable.
· Government contract accounting experience preferred.
· Ability to pass a drug, background, reference, and credit check.
