Position: Visitor Services Representative

Reports to: Museum Sales Manager
Job status: Part-time/24+ hours, shifts can include weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings

Organizational Overview

Portland Children’s Museum consists of three aligned entities: (1) the Museum, where exhibits and programs serve the public both on- and off-site, (2) Opal School, a fee-based preschool and K-5 public charter school, and (3) the Museum Center for Learning, which researches fresh approaches to education and provides professional development for educators. In this description, Portland Children’s Museum (or, “the organization”) refers to the whole.

Position Summary
Responsible for greeting and orienting visitors, promoting memberships, retail sales and donation campaigns, attending to the care and comfort of visitors, and providing information and support to ensure positive visitor experiences.

Essential Functions:

· Greet and orient guests, answer questions and process payments for the museum, including memberships, retail sales and programs, such as birthdays, camps and classes, etc…

· Meet a highest standard in patron service and sales performance

· Promote the Museum by providing up-to-date information on Museum programs, events, and activities to visitors, including information about Washington Park and other local attractions

· Create, model and maintain a high awareness among staff of the Museum’s responsibility to ensure positive visitor experiences

· Build connections with fellow staff and other departments to foster an atmosphere of support, trust and success

· Maintain the admission desk, store and surrounding lobby: stock brochures, remove trash, set up and remove signage as needed.

· Answer phones as needed; refer callers appropriately.

· Follow cash handling procedures, accurately process and account for cash, check and credit card transactions.

· Comply with all Museum policies and procedures

· Provide an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for all ages and abilities

· Ensure that all public spaces are safe and clean.

Qualifications

· Previous customer service and retail/sales experience

· Excellent customer service & communication skills

· Extremely flexible schedule

· Readiness to respond to any situation in a calm and comforting manner

· Experience with Point of Sale systems(RMS a plus) and cash handling processes

· Strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks

· Ability and willingness to comply with all aspects and issues outlined in the Portland Children’s Museum Employee Manual
