Community Fundraising

Community fundraising is an essential part of our voluntary income. The Community Fundraising team support local Concern groups across Northern Ireland and provide excellent stewardship to a wide range of groups and individual fundraisers across the UK. The Community team also support schools, churches and small businesses in their fundraising activities, and proactively seek new ways to engage these groups. The Community Fundraising team lead in our event fundraising, including the Concern Fast, the London Marathon, London Triathlon and our ‘Do Your Thing’ campaign, recruiting individuals and groups to organise their own fundraising events to support Concern.

We have recently reviewed our community fundraising activities and developed a new community fundraising strategy. We are now looking for a highly-motivated manager to lead our Community Fundraising team in further developing our local community engagement and increasing support for our international programmes.

UK Community Fundraising Manager

The UK Community Fundraising Manager will lead the team in delivering our new community fundraising strategy. They will be passionate about delivering excellent stewardship and supporter care to all our fundraisers and event participants, while proactively seeking new opportunities to increase support from local communities. They will have overall responsibility for managing and maximising Concern’s fundraising potential from local communities and will also personally develop new and existing community engagement opportunities.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To lead the Community Fundraising team to maximise income and support for Concern Worldwide (UK) from local communities in Northern Ireland and throughout the UK. Community fundraising is a vital element of our fundraising strategy. It has been identified as a key potential growth area in the period of our new strategic plan where the focus will be on increasing our visibility and activism in the community. Our Community Fundraising priorities include strengthening our existing groups and volunteers, developing new groups, recruiting local community ambassadors and activists, and inspiring individuals and organisation to support Concern in order to increase our community fundraising income.

KEY DUTIES:

Strategy

1.  To lead the Community Fundraising team in delivering the new community fundraising strategic plan and budgets, and to maximise engagement from local communities with a particular focus on expanding community support in Northern Ireland.

2.  To contribute to the development and delivery of the overall UK strategic plan and fundraising strategy.

Delivery and Implementation

3.  To manage the development and delivery of individual operational plans set against agreed targets, including monitoring, evaluation and reporting, as required.

4.  To plan and implement a community engagement programme to recruit local community ambassadors, activists, and speakers to represent Concern in their local communities and inspire people to support Concern through local fundraising activities.

5.  To project manage, market and maximise income from UK-wide community fundraising campaigns including the Concern Fast, ‘Do Your Thing’, the London Marathon, etc.

6.  To ensure the community engagement programme and fundraising activities are communicated widely in the press, media and digital platforms in order to maximise support.

7.  To produce regular financial and key performance indicator reports on Community Fundraising.

8.  To provide regular analysis and reports on budgets, activities, trends, the external fundraising environment and activity within the community sector.

Management

9.  To manage the Community Fundraising team and liaise with other departments to ensure the successful implementation of coordinated fundraising plans.

10.  To manage and support the implementation of individual operational plans and ensure delivery of excellent stewardship to local community groups and individuals.

11.  To support the Northern Ireland Director in the management of the Belfast office, as required.

Other

12.  To coordinate with fundraising teams in the UK and ROI and other departments, sharing skills, knowledge and information, where applicable.

13.  To represent Concern on groups, networks and at events in Northern Ireland and across the UK, as required.

14.  To undertake other project work, as required from time to time.

CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

Salary: Pay Grade 5b - £31,238 per annum. A pension scheme is available.

This is a permanent, full time post.

The normal full-time working week is 35 hours.

It is the nature of this Community Fundraising role that normal working hours will involve evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the post. Occasional travel to Concern offices in London and Dublin is also required, including overnight stays.

Access to a form of transport is essential to carry out the duties of this post.

Appointment will be subject to a six-month probationary period.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Concern has a Code of Conduct and a Programme Participant Protection Policy which have been developed to ensure the maximum protection of programme participants, especially beneficiaries, from abuse and exploitation, and to clarify the responsibilities of Concern staff, partner organisations, and anyone engaged by Concern or visiting our programmes, and the standards of behaviour expected of them. In this context all Concern staff have a responsibility to the organisation to strive for, and maintain, the highest standards in the day-to-day conduct of their work in accordance with Concern’s core values and mission.

Any breach of the Concern Code of Conduct or the Programme Participant Protection Policy by employees of Concern Worldwide during the course of their employment will result in disciplinary action up to, and including, dismissal.

COUNTER-TERRORISM CLEARANCE CHECK:

Concern receives a substantial amount of funding from external donors each year. Increasingly donors are introducing requirements whereby future funding is conditional on Concern ensuring that the names of any new employee or volunteer do not appear on terrorism lists generated by the European Union (List of person, groups and entities to which Regulation (EC No. 2580/2001 applies), the US Government (Office of Foreign Assets Control list of specially designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) and the United Nations (Consolidated List).

SECTION 3: / ESSENTIAL SHORTLISTING CRITERIA

1.  Must have achieved a third level qualification in a relevant subject AND 5 years fundraising experience, of which at least 3 years have been in community fundraising.

2.  Must have a demonstrable track record in team management, leading and motivating fundraising staff and volunteer teams to successfully deliver results.

3.  Demonstrable track record of achievements in professional fundraising, including :

·  Planning and delivery of campaigns/events, including coordinating multiple ongoing projects

·  Experience of creative, print production, direct marketing and online marketing

·  Ability to effectively manage workloads, at times under pressure, and on own initiative without close supervision

·  Ability to work to financial targets, manage income and expenditure budgets, and analyse and evaluate financial performance

4.  Excellent communications skills to include strong presentation skills with experience of presenting to a variety of groups, excellent writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills to lead and motivate volunteers and fundraisers to support a vibrant fundraising team.

ENHANCED SHORTLISTING CRITERIA

Concern will shortlist only those candidates who appear, from the information provided, to meet the essential requirements of this post, and may, in some circumstances, rely on enhanced criteria for shortlisting purposes.

Enhanced criteria will be based on additional years’ experience, direct experience in community fundraising and experience in team management. So, for example, if a high number of candidates meet the minimum shortlisting criteria, those who can demonstrate the enhanced criteria will be shortlisted.
