POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Director of Adult Education

This position is responsible for directing all aspects of the college’s Adult Education Department, including Adult Basic Education, ESL Instruction, Workplace Literacy, and GED administration.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Instructional

· Establishes and directs all adult education instructional programs, including the subject areas found on the GED, ESL Instruction, and Workplace Literacy.

· In accordance with local and state policies and procedures, directs the development and implementation of instructional services, including student intake and assessment, curriculum implementation, recruitment and retention planning, and department staff development.

Administrative

· Directs the administration of the GED testing program.

· Promotes the adult education program to public and private organizations, organizes advisory committees, and is involved with community partners associated with Adult Education services.

· Reviews and approves purchase requests.

· Oversees the maintenance of student records and the student data housed in GALIS.

· Prepares grant applications—including the competitive grants associated with Adult Education—and directs the administration of all program budgets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Baccalaureate Degree required in Education or field of study closely related to the occupational field.

· Experience sufficient to understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits and students in the department in order to direct work, meaning three to five years of related experience.

· Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree in Education or field of study closely related to the occupational field.

· Three to five years of experience working as an instructor or administrator in an Adult Education setting.

· Experience writing and managing a competitive Adult Education grant.

· Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College’s service area counties.

SALARY/BENEFITS

· $61,705.19 annual salary.

JOB SUMMARY

MAJOR DUTIES

Instructional

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

· Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education.

· Knowledge of the Adult Education state and federal grant preparation and implementation.

· Knowledge of budget tracking and reporting, purchasing policies, contracting rules, travel regulations and reimbursement through Concur, purchasing through TeamGA Marketplace, facilities maintenance, and campus security procedures.

· Knowledge of college human resources policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of trends in Adult Education.

· Knowledge of GED test components, policies, and procedures.

· Knowledge of issues associated with organizing of adult education classes.

· Knowledge of the college’s academic programs.

· Knowledge of GALIS and its various reports.

· Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.

· Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff.

· Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Skill in timely decision making and problem solving.

· Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

· Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Dean of Academic Support assigns work in terms of program goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of program activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

· The work consists of varied administrative, management, and supervisory duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.

· The purpose of this position is to direct the college’s adult education program. Success in this position contributes to student success.

· Contacts are typically with students, faculty, staff, college administrators, educational partners, and members of the general public.

· Contacts are typically to motivate or influence persons, to resolve problems, or to justify, defend, or negotiate matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

· The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects.

· The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over program personnel.
