Outline of Duties
Job Title: Facilities Technician
Responsible To: Engineering Co-Ordinator
Department: Engineering
Relief: Other Facility Technicians/ Maintenance Team /
Responsibilities include:

1.  Carry out an intensive programme of planned preventive maintenance for all company assets and utilities to include;

·  Steam boilers

·  Thermal oil heaters

·  Refrigeration systems / Coolant towers

·  Air handling units

·  Fluid transfer systems, heating systems

·  Hot and cold water systems

·  Effluent treatment plant

·  Commercial laundry equipment

·  Fire sprinkler system

·  General Heating

·  Compressed Air system

2.  To fully participate in the preventive maintenance programme and provide improvements on a daily basis.

3.  To ensure all Measured Term Contracts and contractor activities are completed on time and to the correct standards.

4.  Contact external contractors as required and accompany/assist them while on site.

5.  Adhere to and ensure that Health and safety requirements are implemented at all times.

6.  The successful candidate will be working on systems which are bound by a number of legislative requirements which must be understood and adhered to at all time.

7.  Review processes, procedures, systems, paperwork on site and make suggestions for improvement

8.  Any other reasonable duties or project work which may be required by management from time to time

Reporting Relationships/Social Conditions:

The job incumbent works mostly by themselves with only occasional contact from the foreperson or other colleagues. Reporting through the foreperson to the Engineering Co-ordinator.

Physical Conditions:

The job is performed in varying degrees of light and heat, both internally and externally (on designated walkways or platforms). The nature of the job demands contact with greasy/dirty substances and sometimes within close proximity of poultry entrails, meat and other substances. It also involves extensive periods on foot.

Competencies, Knowledge and Experience required:

·  Must be a Time/Skill-Served Fitter / Electrician or Refrigeration engineer.

·  Must have experience working in a production / manufacturing environment.

·  NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds Part 2 electrical / mechanical engineering or equivalent is essential.

·  City and Guilds Level 2 in F-Gas and ODS Regulations would be desirable.

·  Must have a mechanical aptitude.

·  Must be able to diagnose and solve problems.

·  Good reasoning ability desirable.

·  Ability to work on own initiative and make best decisions to suit the production needs.

·  Able to prioritise work and manage their own time.

·  Ability to participate in an on call rota.

·  Showing initiative is essential.

·  Good communication skills are essential.

·  Good literacy and numeracy skills.

·  Good interpersonal skills are essential.

·  Analytical / problem solving skills.

·  Good common sense.

·  Must have experience of Welding (gas and electric).

·  Must have experience of Fabrication.

·  Must have experience of Mechanical Drive Systems.

·  Experience in the use of Hydraulics and Pneumatics is desirable

·  Experience within a Food /Processing Industry is desirable.

·  Must have refrigeration plant and steam generation experience.

·  Knowledge of effluent treatment is desirable.
