Purpose: The completion of this follow-on activity is required as documentation to demonstrate that you recognise the importance of ensuring that service users are treated with dignity and respect.

Instructions: You have a responsibility to treat those you provide care for with dignity and respect. This includes respecting their needs and preferences, listening to them and protecting their privacy. Reflect on the importance of treating individuals with respect and dignity and then record your answers to the questions. You may print this document out and complete it by hand, or you can type directly into this document and print it after you’ve finished. After you complete this activity, be sure to bring it to your training supervisor along with the certificate of completion you will receive after you take the course test. It will then become part of your training record.

Considering the importance of respect and dignity

Think about and list some reasons why it’s important to ensure individuals are treated with dignity and respect when providing care services. Be prepared to discuss this with your supervisor.

Compile a list of ways of displaying respect for service users.

In the table, list examples of how you can show respect for service users, along with examples of how you could implement these ideas to show respect to the specific people you care for.
