Dear Colleague,

It is a tough time to be a Director of Nursing in Long-Term Care-long hours; super-stressful job scope, you know, “Other duties as assigned”; and endless responsibilities. It’s no wonder that the State of Ohio averages less than 12 months as typical tenure for a DON in a given facility.

Frequently, DONs get little formal training, and even less networking and support. It is common for the new DON to have recently been “deputized” from the ranks of talented floor staff. We at ODONA/LTC saw the need for a one day seminar, for 7.5 CEUs, and some of the most important topics you will face as a new or prospective Director of Nursing. The “DON Boot Camp” was born of this desire to arm new DONs, ADONs, and nurse managers of all sorts with some of the basic knowledge that they need to be successful in this crazy world of nursing leadership.

Our program contains core elements of MDS, Surviving the Survey Process, Humor and Stress Management, Staff Development, and so much more! We will discuss the Characteristics of the Successful DON, as well as Contractual Agreements, and spend time on an Introduction to Resident Centered Care.

Our goal for this program is to provide information and education, in a supportive environment, with a liberal dose of humor built in. We hope you’ll join us for the day, to learn, network, and, dare we say, relax a bit in the company of your peers.

We hope you’ll save the date! Wednesday, September 2nd, from 8am-4pm at the Jenkins Memorial Health Facility in Wellston.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Lisa Maleszewski, RN, BSN, DON (The Columbus Alzheimer Care Center, ODONA Director, Region 1, Central Ohio) at .

With Warmest Regards from the ODONA Board.
