Objective: As a result of the learning experiences in this session, participants will be better able to appreciate the relevance of UDL and its capacity to create better learning opportunities and outcomes for students and higher evaluations for teachers.

Universal Design for Learning

Agenda

I. Activators: The Dolomites

II. Finding like-teachers: A silent game

III. A Look at Teacher Evaluation: What do you actually have to teach? How does it connect to UDL?

IV. The zone of proximal development.

V. Reflection – How does it all tie together?

Dolomites

First, without talking, find a friend(s) who teaches the same grade/subject or similar. Sit with them.

1. Maximize transfer and generalization: How could a lesson examining the dolomites relate to your content area/grade?

2. Identify the content your students will need to learn (what can students learn about the Dolomites that will help to engage them and help them to become more successful on the task)?

3. What methods will they need to demonstrate to be successful (i.e, writing, reading, painting, skiing, experimenting, solving…)

The Danielson Framework and the UDL Guidelines

UDL is best served.....

At the bottom of the page, there is a list of popular martinis. Using the list as a guide (feel free to create your own!), choose one martini that best represents how you feel about UDL right now. Identify the cocktail and explain the metaphor below.
