All Weekend Classes

Friday 1:30 – 4:30pm Saturday 9:00am – 4:30pm Sunday 9:00am – Noon --- 12 hours total

Course #: 1 / Instructor: Priscilla Hair / Title: Quilt Soup – First You Take A Goose
Contact Info: / 864-859-0092 /
“Quilt Soup – First You Take a Goose” helps you to learn the principles of design in a very fun way. Simply using a rectangle and a square, you will piece wild geese units – twisting and turning to create new shapes – ending up with a truly original piece!
Supplies Needed:
¬You may want to think of a mood for your piece and bring fabrics that will “work.” Helpful pieces could be your favorite fabric, batik panels, a picture. Fat quarters or half yards will work well. The amount of fabric will relate to how large you wish your piece to be. Bring a variety of values in your color scheme. Be daring!!
¬Design board
Course #: 2 / Instructor: Barbara Gail Blate / Title: Fanciful Faces and More
Contact Info: / 828-863-4660 /
A face might be the starting point for learning the process explored in this workshop, but you can choose anything...a flower…a tree...a bird...a building...a doodle. Your original idea can begin and finish as realistic or abstract as you wish. Play with the design elements (space, line, shape, texture, and color) with a variety of materials to discover a practical, step-by-step approach that you can use again and again to develop your own original quilt designs. Then combine these concepts into a unique expression of your individual personality, preferences and passions to create your own unique quilt project. Your fused project may take form as a wall hanging, pillow cover, pages of a fabric book, focal piece for a larger project, etc.
Supplies Needed:
A handout will be sent before class to help with questions and fabric decisions.
¬Paper and small fabric scissors (I prefer Fiskar’s Spring Action Scissors)
¬Pencil and black Sharpie permanent markers, with fine and medium points
¬Colored pencils and markers
¬Glue stick and Aileen’s fabric glue or equivalent
¬Magazines, calendars, catalogs with colorful pictures to cut out
¬1 ¬2 yards fusible web (Lite Steam-A-Seam will be on hand for purchase, if not available from vendors)
¬Cutting mat (18”x 24”), rotary cutter and ruler (24”)
¬Teflon pressing sheet or parchment paper and a sponge with a scouring surface
¬A piece of cardboard, a little larger than a fat quarter
¬Embellishments: glitter, leftover trims, ribbons, yarn, beads, buttons, baubles
¬Color wheel or chart
(Two irons and ironing surfaces will be available)
Fabrics:
¬ ¬Smaller scraps, in all kinds, colors and textures (cottons, synthetics, blends, glitzy, upholstery, lace, tulle, etc.), the more to choose from, the better.
¬Large fabric scraps or fat quarters:
·  1 fat quarter of white or white-on-white fabric
·  1 fat quarter of black (or appears black) fabric
·  2-4 large scraps of black and white prints—small and medium prints
·  4 large scraps with warm colors—3 from the red, orange, &/or yellow families with some texture/pattern, and one coordinating combination of those warm colors Cont’t next page
·  4 large scraps with cool colors—3 from the blue, green, &/or purple families with some texture/pattern, and one coordinating combination of those cool colors
·  2 large scraps with a mixture of warm and cool colors (one mix to coordinate with the warm colors and one for the cool colors from above)
·  A couple of possible background fabrics, light, medium and dark values of colors coordinating with your color choices above
·  Fabrics for the final project will depend on your choice of one of your designs from the initial multimedia exercises. Most fabrics are included in the list above, but if you need additional fabrics and fusible web, they can be purchased from our wonderful vendors.

Course #: 5 / Instructor: Jane Godshall / Title: Foundation-less New York Beauty, Mariner’s Compass, Double Wedding Ring
Contact Info: / 980-939-1202 /
In this class you will use freezer paper as your pattern to create accurate points, arcs and seams-no more pulling off paper. You’ll have reusable patterns pieces for the Mariner’s Compass and New York Beauty- traditional blocks that are thought of as a bit intimidating.
With my method of foundation-less piecing those perfect points, arcs and spires are conquered. We’ll take this traditional block and add even more points, spires and arcs. Best of all, with this technique you won’t be sewing through the paper, so there is no fighting to tear off the paper in the end. From there we’ll explore the variations in the pattern and each quilt will be an original. This is a great technique to add to your toolbox.
