ABSTRACT: The Future of Numbering Working Group of the NANC is considering the impact of social networking Internet websites (MySpace, MSN Groups, Facebook, etc.) and alternative communications services (Skype, YouTube, etc.) on E.164 telephone numbering resources. Considerations such as telephone number consumption, end user identity and alternative electronic addressing that could functionally compete with conventional telephone numbers are areas of impact for the FoN WG to study. The scope of these new Internet Protocol based services might have implications on the future of telephone number usage not only in North America but also worldwide. The attached references report the rate of growth in these emerging communications and media platforms.
