What are the principles of government?
Standards:

Students will explain the foundations of government. R
Students will list the many different types of governments. R
Students will recognize the characteristics of the different governments. R /
Through class participation, students will enact the various characteristics of governments through role play.
Quizzes will be utilized which will reflect the knowledge learned regarding the principles of government.
Various other teacher generated activities will check the knowledge gained by the students.
Utilizing the textbook, a test will be administered over chapter one. /

What are the foundations of American Government?

How has American government evolved since the seventeenth century?

Students will identify the similarities and differences of the United States' government as compared to various governments of the past. M
Students will be able to describe the changes in American government since the seventeenth century. M
Students will report the various changes in American government that directly affect them on a daily basis. I,M /
Students will construct a model which reflects how the United States' government "borrowed" key concepts from other past governments.
A timeline will be created in order to demonstrate the changes that have occurred in American government since the seventeenth century.
Various other teacher generated activities will check the knowledge gained by the students.
A test will be given which will cover the materials listed in skills portion of this map and those that are covered in chapter 2 of the textbook. /

October / Three Branches of Government Unit:
What are the three branches of American Government and what are their primary and secondary functions?
Standards:
Civics: S 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4
NOTE: the Three Branches of American Government Unit will run into mid-November. /
Students will create a flowchart that portrays the powers of the three branches of American government. R
Students will recognize the powers and limitations of each of the three branches of American government. R

Students will construct a model which demonstrates the powers of each of the three branches of American government as well as how the branches rely upon one another and check each others powers.
Quizzes will be utilized throughout the unit in order to check knowledge of the three branches of American government.
Various other teacher generated activities will check the knowledge gained by the students.
Unit Tests will be given covering the materials covered in Unit 3, 4, and 5 of the textbook. /

Quizzes will be utilized throughout the unit in order to check knowledge of the three branches of American government.
A research project will also be employed to explore the various conflicts and resolutions between the three branches of American government.

Students will be responsible for collecting and interpreting and presenting information which reflects the construction of Colorado's government.
