Season’s Greetings

WINTER CONCERT

Boost your holiday spirit with sounds of the season provided by our students. There will be two different programs. Our 4th and 5th grade Instrumental Band students will present a Winter Concert on Monday, December 14th at 6:15 PM in our multi-purpose room. On Tuesday, December 15th at 10:00 AM, our Music Department is pleased to present “A Winter Celebration of Literacy” in a celebration of our children’s achievements in the arts. All students in Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be featured. You are invited to attend these events!

NOT TOO PROUD TO BRAG!

WOW! At our first quarter Academic Awards Assembly we celebrated the achievements of 20 students with straight A’s, 213 Honor Roll students (3.0 average and no grade less than a C), and 310 students were recognized as outstanding citizens of Montpelier Elementary. We awarded certificates to 165 students with perfect attendance (no tardies, absences, or early dismissals). Congratulations!

KIDS HELPING KIDS 2015 CANNED FOOD & COAT

According to Feeding America, more than 48.8 million people face the threat of hunger every day in the United States. At Montpelier Elementary, we like to help support our local community and families in need by hosting our annual food drive on behalf of the Salvation Army from now until December 18th. To help, please donate unopened, nonperishable boxed and canned food items (canned meat/fish, pasta & pasta sauce, cereal, canned meals (chili, stew), peanut butter, canned vegetables) In addition to the food drive, we are also hosting an “old coat” collection. Please bring clean, unwanted coats so that they may be distributed to those without the comfort of a coat. Thank you for your generosity.

MAKE-UP PICTURE DAY & HOLIDAY PORTRAITS

Did you miss the first picture day? Or, were you dissatisfied with your child’s portrait taken earlier this school year? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, mark December 10th on your calendar as the return date for the Strawbridge Studios photographers. Simply return the entire unwanted portrait package or send a completed order form along with payment (portrait information and payment envelopes are available in our main office) and your child will be scheduled for a photo session on December 10th. If you choose to pay online, you will need to enter code 1067 at www.strawbridge.net. Your online order number should be written at the bottom of your order envelope.

Or, you might want to consider a holiday portrait from Strawbridge Studios. Order forms were sent home on Friday, December 4th. To pay online for the holiday portraits, you will need to enter code 5787685 at www.strawbridge.net. Your online order number should be written at the bottom of your order envelope.

No uniform is required on this date IF your student is participating in either photo session.

MIXED BAG DESIGNS – A SUCCESS!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Montpelier families who supported our Mixed Bag Designs fundraiser. Your support will help fund special events for the students and purchase much needed classroom materials and equipment. We expect delivery and distribution of your purchases shortly. Thank you.

FEDERAL IMPACT AID SURVEYS

Federal Impact Aid Survey forms were sent home recently with all students enrolled by September 30, 2015. Federal funding for various school programs depends upon you to complete and return this form as soon as possible. The more forms returned, the greater the amount of funds available to Prince George’s County Public Schools.

SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

Montpelier students are required to wear the school uniform to school daily. Uniform cardigan sweaters are the only permissible outerwear over the school uniform while indoors. Sweatshirts, sweaters made from sweatshirt material, and windbreakers are unacceptable. If your child is cold during winter months, they may layer their clothing. However, no shirts or long underwear may be visible outside of the uniform. Long sleeved shirts may not be worn under short-sleeved shirts and turtlenecks are not permitted. (The sky blue polo-style uniform shirt is available in both long and short-sleeves.) Also, our uniform policy specifies plain white or navy blue tights or socks, ONLY, for girls. Leggings may not be worn during the school day and must be removed. Also, our students have outdoor recess whenever weather permits as long as the temperature is above freezing. Please plan accordingly.

SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL

There are several on-going programs that help Montpelier each time you do your regular shopping. These include Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Labels for Education, Safeway and Giant Food programs. For more information and links to register, visit Montpelier Elementary’s web page (http://www1.pgcps.org/montpelier/) and click on “Fundraisers” located under the “Parents and Students” tab. It’s so easy and very much appreciated.

SCHOOL SYSTEM EMERGENCY WEATHER PLANS FOR PRE K STUDENTS

When it becomes necessary to delay the opening of school or to dismiss students early, the following guidelines apply to Pre-Kindergarten students:

· When there is a 2 hour delay in the morning, there will be no Pre-Kindergarten at all that day.

· When it becomes necessary to close schools early, there will be no afternoon Pre K. The morning students must stay until dismissal. Lunch will be provided. If they live within the walk zone, they will walk home when the older students are dismissed. If they normally ride in a car pool, they will be dismissed as car riders and proceed to our Kiss and Ride to meet their car pool. If their home is serviced by school buses, they will ride the school buses home.
