Monsters and Aliens invade the Bay Area

The fourth annual Cut, Crash and Burn combat contest saw an out-of-state visitor, an out-of-country visitor and the return of a friend. Mel Lyne, The Alien, who hails from British Columbia likes to vacation in California in October. This is the second year sightings of "The Alien" have occurred in Concord in October. Don, The Combat Monster, McKay from Washington also gave fall vacationing in California a try. Both Mel and Don bring airplanes with them and stop by while in town. Also the reappearance of Dave Stevenson to the combat circle was a welcome addition.

The contest day was rainy which didn't phase our out-of-state visitors. There were many excellent matches throughout the day with the level of flying raised up by the quality of our visitors. However, it was the local Dave Stevenson who put on a combat clinic after a three year absence. Dave took the top place in both the 1/2A and 80mph events. The second and third places in 1/2A were taken by the visitors from the Northwest. The 80mph event was swept by the locals.

The last two years of the cut, crash and burn combat contest has established itself as a fall classic to end the contest season. The vision and hard work of contest director Lee Letchworth has seen this contest grow from a fun local event to an event that has, in some ways become a destination contest.
