Monitoring in MicrosoftDynamicsAX®2012
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 is a mid-market ERP solution with comprehensive application functionality for various business processes, role-tailored dashboards, hundreds of reports, and a complete business intelligence (BI) solution with cubes and key performance indicators (KPI). Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 leverages the power of the underlying software components such as Microsoft SQL Server®, SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, and Microsoft SharePoint® to bring together this comprehensive feature set. In order to manage the availability and performance of a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 system, it is important to ensure that all subsystems in the infrastructure be available and performing. An end-to-end monitoring solution is therefore a key element in an administrator’s toolkit to ensure the availability of the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 system.
System Center Monitoring Pack for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
The System Center Monitoring Pack for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 provides a complete set of rules to discover and monitor all components in a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 installation. The following is a high-level overview of the functionality available in the Monitoring Pack for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012:
  • Discoveries – The monitoring pack automatically discovers all the components that are part of your Microsoft Dynamics AX installation. This includes Microsoft Dynamics AX Application Object Server (AOS) clusters and servers, SQL Server Reporting Servers and SQL Server Analysis Servers, and Enterprise Portal for Microsoft Dynamics AX sites.
  • Monitors – The health of the Microsoft Dynamics AX system is monitored constantly by configuration, availability, performance, and security monitors. A dynamic visual view of the environment depicts the health of the various Microsoft Dynamics AX components where the health of child nodes rolls up to the parent nodes.
  • Performance and event collection rules – Key metrics such as server process counters and the counts of users, jobs, and activities are collected and displayed in charts in the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) console.
  • Tasks – Operations Manager users can easily perform the most common administrative tasks, such as controlling AOS state and viewing information about users and jobs from within the Management console with a single click.
  • Alerts – Monitoring pack rules and monitors generate alerts to inform you of situations that need to be addressed immediately and details on how to resolve the problem.
  • Events – Events generated on the server computers are collected and displayed within the Operations Manager console in an event view to enable easier troubleshooting in case a problem does occur.
In addition to the Monitoring Pack for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, you can leverage other Management Packs, such as SQL Server and SharePoint, to monitor the health and performance of those subsystems. / Environment Health (diagram view)

  • You can add your own rules to monitor additional activity on your Microsoft Dynamics system and can also add additional SCOM tasks for the monitored objects to make Administration even easier.
