MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE AU GRES-SIMS BOARD OF EDUCATION
ARENAC COUNTY, STATE OF MICHIGAN
I CALL TO ORDER:
A special meeting of the Board of Education of the Au Gres-Sims School District, Arenac County, State of Michigan, was held in the Au Gres Community Library on February 24, 2017. The meeting was called to order by President Heather Garry at 12:30 p.m.
Members Present: Heather Caulfield, Heather Garry, Nancy Selle, Nicholas Moore, Gregory Walker, Norma Schwiderson
Members Absent: Fred Robel, who arrived at 12:50 p.m.
II A GENDA APPROVAL:
MOTION (Schwiderson); SUPPORTED (Moore) and carried unanimously the Board of Education approve the agenda as presented.
III COMMUNICATIONS: None
IV WORK SESSION :
A. Possible Bond Issue: Sinking fund and uses for same discussed. Consenus of the board was to pursue a bond issue for capital improvements. Preliminary discussion of suggested needs included parking lots, windows, middle school restrooms, secure entrances, signage, upgraded heating/cooling/renewable energy system, and phone system. Discussion regarding process of hiring architect and construction manager ensued; superintendent directed to proceed with same. Lack of area venues for community use discussed.
B. Superintendent's Evaluation: Training to take place at Standish-Sterling High School on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Evaluation to be based solely on goals.
C. Arenac Eastern Closure: Possible contracting and transportation of students discussed; consensus of the board was to accept any contracted students that were offered. March 8 meeting planned for Arenac Eastern to discuss issue with their community; more information to be forthcoming. Board members expressed sadness for the Arenac Eastern community at-large over difficult situation and support for students' best interests.
D. Apptegy Website & Mobile App: New website and mobile app discussed. Upfront costs would be $2,500; five year contract available for same cost as current web services. Option for fee collection discussed. Website must be vision-impaired accessible. Noted Twitter feeds made over 300,000 impressions.
E. Negotiations Update: Negotiations very positive to date with teachers; draft tentative agreement to be developed. Support staff negotiations to begin in March.

F. Policy Committee: Meeting to be scheduled to discuss eligibility. Board meeting postings discussed.
V ADJOURNMENT:
MOTION (Selle); SUPPORTED (Schwiderson), and carried unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 2:57 p.m.
