MICHAEL B. WAGNER MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The family and friends of Michael B. Wagner have established the Michael B. Wagner Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund to honor his accomplishments and to serve as a permanent memorial. This permanent scholarship is being established with Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources. Specifically, the scholarship will support a student or students majoring in wildlife science.

Recipients will be undergraduates and chosen on the basis of academic achievement, leadership qualities, good character and financial need. Preference to be given to students with interests in promoting and preserving wildlife. Primary consideration for receipt of the Michael B. Wagner Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund shall be given to undergraduate students in the College’s wildlife option and who are members of the Virginia Tech chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) social fraternity.

Wildlife Science at Virginia Tech

Wildlife Science is a designated option within the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech. The wildlife science program is comprehensive, covering aspects of wildlife science, management, conservation, and ecology. Wildlife science students acquire the knowledge and skills for managing our diverse wildlife resources.

Careers in Wildlife Science

Growing public interest in environmental issues, endangered species, and habitat restoration all indicates an increasing need for well-educated natural resource professionals. In the public sector many wildlife professionals pursue rewarding careers with federal agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and with such state agencies as the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Wildlife professionals often work as part of a management team for state and federal agencies. Environmental consulting firms employ wildlife professionals, as do forest industries, public utilities, and such conservation groups as the Nature Conservancy and the National Wildlife Federation. The outlook for careers in wildlife conservation is good.
