Making the Fraction Ladder

Materials:

· Wide craft sticks (10 per student)

· Multiplication Chart

· Masking Tape

· Glue

1. Line up all ten craft sticks parallel to each other, putting them close to each other but not touching. It is a good idea to space them “one craft stick” apart. To do this, line 19 sticks up touching. Remove every other one.

2. Carefully tape each side and the middle of the sticks, front and back.

3. Cut the multiplication charts apart, row-by-row.

4. On the top stick glue the first row with the numbers 1 – 10 (the multiples of one).

5. On second stick glue the multiples of two. Try to line the numbers under the pervious set of multiples.

6. On third stick glue the multiples of three.

7. Continue in this manner ending with the 10th stick and the multiples of 10.

Note: Run multiplication on overhead and show students they don’t need the top and side numbers. Also, cut horizontally.
