Standish man is charged after Agents seize pills, cash and firearm

(Standish) April 16, 2009, Roy E. McKinney, Director of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Robert J. Doherty, Special Agent Supervisor of the MDEA’s Cumberland District Task Force Office announced the arrest WAYNE DOW (65) of Ossipee Trail in Standish. DOW has been charged with Unlawful Trafficking in a Schedule W Drug (OxyContin) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, both Class B offenses.

On 4/16/200, Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office raided the home of DOW after obtaining a search warrant for the residence. Prior to the execution of the search warrant, DOW was stopped as he left the Ossipee Trail address; no other people were in the home.

A search of DOW’S home resulted in the seizure of numerous prescription pills to include OxyContin and Clonazepam, $16,000 USC and a .410 rifle. Evidence obtained prior to and during the search shows DOW actively distributing prescription medication throughout Cumberland County.

DOW was arrested following the search warrant for the above charges, and is being held at the Cumberland County Jail with bail set at $15,000 cash. An initial Court appearance will be made by DOW in the coming weeks.

DOW’s arrest illustrates the epidemic problem of prescription medications being diverted for non-medical use in Maine. That problem exists in both urban and rural communities. Additional investigation in this case is underway.
