East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action (EDVA) was launched on 1st May 2012 from a merger of the former East Dunbartonshire Council for Voluntary Service and the Volunteer Centre East Dunbartonshire. EDVA and its membership are made up of local individuals, volunteers, voluntary and community groups and organisations. The Membership has the opportunity of electing representatives on to the Board of EDVA making it a real community owned resource.

EDVA Vision:

There are high levels of volunteering and public confidence in the third sector and social economy across East Dunbartonshire

EDVA Mission:

To provide strategic direction to third sector activity and community engagement in East Dunbartonshire in line with Scottish Government and local SOA requirements

Aims & Objectives:

We will achieve this by leading the design and delivery of a needs-led strategic response in six main areas:

·  People have opportunities to volunteer and are supported to do so

·  Volunteer involving organisations are able to recruit, manage and support volunteers

·  Social enterprise is effectively supported to develop and grow

·  Third sector organisations are well managed and deliver quality services

·  Third sector organisations feel better connected and are able to influence and contribute to public policy

·  The Third Sector Interface is responsive to the diversity of the community and is well managed, governed and effective

Nationally, the organisation is part of the network of 32 Third Sector Interfaces (TSI) across Scotland which plays a key role as advocates of the third sector. Locally, EDVA aligns its operational delivery and strategic direction to the East Dunbartonshire Single Outcome Agreement:

Outcome 1 – East Dunbartonshire has an expanding economy with a competitive and diverse business and retail base.

Outcome 2 – Our people are equipped with knowledge, skills and training to enable them to progress to employment.

Outcome 3 – Our children and young people are safe, healthy and ready to learn.

Outcome 4 – East Dunbartonshire is a safe and sustainable environment in which to live, work and visit.

Outcome 5 – Our people and communities enjoy increased physical activity and mental wellbeing and health inequalities are reduced.

Outcome 6 – Our older population are supported to enjoy a high quality of life and our more vulnerable citizens, their families and carers benefit from effective care and support services

Having been in existence now for over 4 years, EDVA is well recognised as offering knowledge and support to strengthen and promote a diverse range of volunteering activities; community engagement, networking and partnership working; service delivery options to allow the local social economic community to collaborate and grow; and establish the third sector’s active contribution and participation in Community Planning processes.
