Lord of the Flies Essay Due on Fri. March 7th

Instructions:

On separate paper, you are to write an essay about the book The Lord of the Flies. As a minimum, this essay needs to fit traditional five (5) paragraph essay format. The essay should address the following question: Why would this book be of value in a government class? In other words, why would we take the time to read the book? Consider each of the following carefully: What are the beliefs of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke as they relate to the book? Which theories of the origins of government does the book describe? What types of governments do the boys create? Use specific examples from the novel and appropriate definitions as necessary. Be sure to summarize carefully in the conclusion and add any additional personal insights or values. You may use both your government books and your novels to help write the essay. Another note: if I am unable to read the paper due to poor penmanship, I will be unable to successfully determine your appropriate level of understanding and will assume it to be minimal (in other words, I won’t grade it).
