Inter District Competitions
Rules for the “Hawke”, “Corinthian”, “Sun”, “Gill”, “Pear” and “Crisp” Competitions.
1. Preamble- The “Hawke”, “Corinthian”, “Sun”, “Gill”, “Pear” and “Crisp” Trophies shall be offered for the competition among Local District Associations affiliated to the London Schools’ Football Association (LSFA) who have entered their respective County SFA competitions, where available. Other District Associations, at the discretion of the Executive Committee, may be invited to participate. All entries shall be received on or before the date of the AGM.
2. Entry Fee- Participation in these competitions is free for all Local District Associations who have paid their annual affiliation fee. At their discretion, the Executive Committee may make a charge for an entry to any other unaffiliated District Associations who have been invited to participate.
3. The Draw- Matches for the competitions shall be on the Cup-tie principle. The Executive Committee, on a random basis, will make the draw for each competition. The limit dates of the matches (which will be Saturdays) shall be arranged by the Executive Committee.
4. Eligibility- Only boys may compete in the competitions for pupils over the age of 13 years. Pupils of both sexes may play in the Crisp Shield, Pear Trophy and Gill Cup. Only those pupils who are bona-fide scholars and whose names are on the roll of a school shall be allowed to take part in the competitions. Pupils shall only be allowed to represent that Association to which their school is affiliated. No pupil shall be allowed to play for more than one Association during one season, except with the consent of the Executive Committee. Players shall normally become ineligible to take part in our competitions immediately upon commencing work “full time”, or leaving school, but a player who is in attendance at a school at the close of the Easter Term shall be eligible to play in Competition Matches at the end of the season. Any player who has signed as a Trainee or Contract Player for a Club, immediately becomes ineligible to take part in the competitions.
5. Age Groupings- The ages for all competitions shall be calculated as at midnight, 31st August- 1st September, of the current season, and shall be:-
(a) Hawke Trophy Under 16 and Over 14
(b) Corinthian Shield Under 15 and Over 13
(c) Sun Shield Under 14 and Over 12
(d) Sydney Gill Cup Under 13 and Over 11
(e) Thomas Pear Under 12 and Over 11
(f) Crisp Shield Under 11 and Over 10
6. Disqualification- (a) Any Association that includes an ineligible player in their team shall be disqualified from the competition immediately.
(b) Any Association team not under the control of (i) a teacher, (ii) another school employee, (iii) a retired teacher or retired school employee or (iv) a person registered with the English Schools’ FA (ESFA) as an AOTT (Adult Other Than Teacher) shall be disqualified from the relevant competition.
7. Laws of the Game- The Laws of the Game shall be those of FIFA, as amended and, authorized for use in Schools’ Football.
8. Pitch Dimensions- The minimum size of the ground shall be 80 yards by 50 yards.
9. Goalpost- The goalposts shall be 8 yards apart, with a crossbar 8 feet from the ground, in all competitions except the Crisp Shield where slightly smaller goals and a lower crossbar may be used at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
10. Size of football- A size 5 ball shall be used in the Hawke and Corinthian competitions. A size 4 ball shall be used in the Sun, Gill, Pear and Crisp competitions.
11. Protests- All questions of eligibility, qualifications of players and interpretation of rules, shall be referred to the Secretary within two days of the match. Such protests are to be accompanied by a deposit of 10, which may be forfeited to the funds of the Association at the discretion of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee shall entertain no objections relative to the ground, goalposts or crossbars, or other appurtenances of the game,, unless a protest is made to the Referee, in writing, before the commencement of the match.
12. Match Arrangements- The Home District Association, after consultation with their opponents, shall fix the match to take place by the limit date and shall confirm the arrangements with the Competition Secretary at least seven days before the limit date if the match.
13. Duration of Matches- These shall be as follows:-
a) Hawke and Corinthian 2 periods of 40 minutes
b) Sun 2 periods of 35 minutes
c) Gill, Pear and Crisp 2 periods of 30 minutes
Extra time of 10 minutes each way (7 minutes each way for the Gill and Pear and 5 minutes each way for the Crisp competition) shall be played in all rounds, if necessary. If in the opinion of the Match Referee it would not be possible to complete or commence any extra time, the game shall be deemed to be completed at the conclusion of full time.
14. Substitutes- In all LSFA District Competitions five substitutes from five named players are permitted. In all competitions ‘repeated’ substitutions are allowed from the nominated five.
15. Staging of Matches- (a) Matches other than Finals, shall be played on local private grounds where gate money can be taken. All grounds shall be adequately equipped and properly marked, with dressing accommodation within reasonable distance.
(b) Matches can only be played on artificial surfaces if both teams mutually agree to this. In the event of disagreement matches shall be played on grass. If necessary, a home venue must be conceded.
(c) In the event of a draw at full time, extra time should be played. If the teams are still level then teams shall arrive at a result by taking penalty kicks at the end of the match in accordance with the recommendations of FIFA as published in the Laws of the Game.
16. Match Officials – In all rounds up to the final, the Home Secretary should appoint referees and their duties should in accordance with the Laws of the Game as sanctioned and enforced by the Football Association. The Secretary should also appoint assistant referees for semi-final matches. In the event of a referee failing to appear, the Associations must agree, in writing, upon one on the ground, so that the game can be conducted in accordance with the Laws of the Game. The official so acting shall have the powers of a duly appointed referee.
17. Referee Reports- A standing charge shall be made to cover the administration costs of dealing with a Referee’s Report of a sending off or a caution. The charge will be that recommended by the English Schools’ FA in their Official Handbook. Associations/Schools failing to meet this cost within 14 days shall be liable to fine/or disciplinary actions to be decided by the Executive Committee.
18. Notifications of Results- The result of matches must be reported to the appropriate Competition Secretary by the winning team within 24 hours.
19. Mementoes and Trophies- (a) The trophies shall be held by the winning District Associations during the ensuing year. The holders of the trophies shall have the same taken to the ground at which the Final is being played.
(b) Mementoes may be awarded to the team squad participating in the Final. Not more than 16 mementoes shall be awarded to each team playing in the final. Additional mementoes may be available for purchase by finalists in the Inter District Competitions.
20. The Staging and financing of Finals- (a) In all Finals, where the game is staged by one of the competing District Associations, the match shall be self-financing. District Associations should cover the costs of any ground hire and other expenses. All arrangements for these matches shall be carried out by the Home Team Secretary who, within two weeks of the match, shall send one copy of an Audited Balance Sheet to the LSFA Hon. Treasurer and the appropriate share of the net gate to the Visiting Secretary. Any proceeds, after allowable expenses have been deducted, shall be shared equally between the two competing District Associations.
(b) Where a Final is staged by the London Schools’ FA Executive Committee, the proceeds after allowable expenses have been deducted shall be placed into LSFA General Funds.
(c) All Match Officials for the Competition Finals shall be appointed by the appropriate Competition Secretary on behalf of the Executive Committee.
(d) The Associations winners of the trophies and shields shall sign the following document to indicate receipt:
“On behalf of the District Association I acknowledge receipt of the Trophy/Shield, which is the property of the LSFA.
I understand that the said Trophy/Shield is to be retained for one year and at the end of this time it will be returned, engraved and in good order, to the ground at which the following year’s final is being played (as per Competition Rule 1)
