Creating a Web Gallery Using Dreamweaver

Specifications:

The final submission for this unit of study is a web gallery presenting all of your work this semester in digital image representation and design. The specifications for this submission are:

1. The URL for your submission is: http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/~login_name/DECO1001

2. The web gallery must include the following:

a. The resulting banner from Lesson 15 or your own banner

b. The resulting files from Lessons 3, 4, 5, 8, 14, and 16

c. Your logo design and your modified photo

3. The web gallery may include any other images you have created/edited this semester

4. Each image should have about 2 sentences describing which part of the submission (that is, which lesson number or assignment) the image belongs to and something about the image that is relevant to digital image representation and design.

Assessment criteria:

1. 40% correctly followed the specifications for this submission (above)

2. 30% quality of the images for web presentation considering download time and quality of compressed images and size of image in the web window

3. 30% quality of the text description for each image in the gallery

Instructions:

Prepare the folder with all image files to go into Web Gallery:

1. Create a folder called DECO1001 in a folder in the Data/Documents Folder or on a zip disk

2. Copy each image file that you want in your image gallery into the DECO1001 folder

3. Copy the banner.html and associated files created in Lesson 15 or your own banner files into the DECO1001 folder

Create the local and remote sites in Dreamweaver:

4. Open Dreamweaver

5. Choose New Site from the Site menu

6. Name your site DECO1001 gallery

7. Choose No to server technology

8. Choose edit local copies and select the DECO1001 folder you just created from the browser to specify where you want to store your files

9. Choose FTP as the way to connect to the server and enter the following information

a. Host name is ftp.arch.usyd.edu.au

b. The folder on the server is: ~login_name/docs/www/

c. The login and password is your login_name and password for the architecture server

10. do not enable checkin and checkout

11. select done to complete the process of creating a new site

Create the Web Gallery html file:

12. Open the banner.html file (either your own or the one you created in Lesson 15) in Dreamweaver and save it as index.html

13. Below the banner, insert a table from the insert menu in Dreamweaver and make the table have 2 columns and as many rows as you need to include each image in one table cell

14. For each table cell, place the cursor in the cell and insert an image. Below the image add the text that describes the image. You can resize the image in the properties window so that you can fit two images side by side in your gallery.

15. After inserting all images and text, save the index.html file

Upload the web gallery files to the server:

16. Upload the entire site using the site window in Dreamweaver by selecting the folder for the entire site in the local files window and selecting the up arrow to put files on the server

17. Test your gallery by opening the URL as specified above from a web browser
