1. The words “righteous” and “righteousness” are found in the book of Proverbs at least 75 times. If we want to be wise, it is very important for us to know about righteousness. Righteousness means doing the right thing according to God’s law. The person who does the right thing in the right way is righteous.

2. When we talk about righteousness, we are talking about much more than just doing good works. Jesus taught that our righteousness must be more than the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. (Mt. 5:20) They did many good deeds, and had many very strict rules, but in their hearts they did not have a true faith in God. They did good works to be seen of men and to make themselves look good. Their righteousness was a phony imitation подделка of the real thing.

3. The only true righteousness comes from God. An unsaved person can only imitate подражать righteousness. The heart of man is desperately wicked. (Jer. 17:9) There is no good thing in our flesh. (Rom. 7:18) Our own righteousness is as filthy rags. (Is. 64:6) We can be made righteous in Jesus Christ. (Rom. 5:19) He was made sin so we could be made righteous in Him. (2Cor. 5:21) When we believe in Jesus, our faith (not our works) is counted for righteousness. (Rom. 4:6) When He saves us, He makes in us something new that is righteous. (2Cor. 5:17) We still have the old nature that wants to sin. (Rom. 7:21-24) We are commanded to put off the old sinful nature (resist, say no) and put on the new nature (yield to, say yes). (Eph. 4:22-24) When we do good, it is not our righteousness; it is the righteousness of God working in us. (Phil 3:9)

4. The Bible gives instruction in righteousness. (2Tim. 3:16) When we who are saved yield уступать to the new nature, and follow God’s instructions in the Bible, that is true righteousness. There are many benefits to righteous living.

5. Righteousness delivers from death. (Pro. 10:2, 11:4) Riches will not protect you in dangerous times or on judgement day, but God gives safety to a righteous person.

6. Righteousness guides your way. (Pro. 11:5, 15:19) Righteousness delivers you out of trouble, but sin is a trap that gets you in trouble. (Pro. 11:6,8) God will put a wicked person into the trouble you got out of. Righteousness keeps you from being punished. (Pro. 11:21)

7. Righteousness brings you a reward. (Pro. 11:18) Righteousness brings life. (Pro. 11:19, 12:28) Righteousness preserves you. (Pro. 13:6)

8. Righteousness exalts a nation (lifts it up, makes it stronger and better). (Pro. 14:34, 16:12) Righteous leadership makes a population happy. (Pro. 11:10, 29:2)

9. Righteousness brings God’s approval. (Pro. 15:9) God gives wisdom to the righteous. (Pro. 2:7) God promises to feed the righteous. (Pro. 10:3) God uses the righteous to feed other people. (Pro. 10:21) God blesses the work of the righteous. (Pro. 10:16)

10. Righteousness makes dreams come true. (Pro. 10:24,28) Sin makes nightmares come true. Righteousness makes your life stable крепкий. (Pro. 10:25,30, 12:3,7) If you are righteous, you can expect a good future. (Pro. 11:23)

11. Righteousness makes you prosperous. (Pro. 11:28,31) Righteousness makes you fruitful and helps you to win souls for God. (Pro. 11:30, 12:2)

12. Righteousness brings joy. (Pro. 13:9) Righteousness brings good things to your life. (Pro. 13:21) Righteousness helps you to be satisfied when you eat. (Pro. 13:25) Righteousness makes you sing. (Pro. 29.6)

13. Righteousness brings you respect. (Pro. 14:9,19) Righteousness gives you hope when you are dying. (Pro. 14:32) Righteousness brings you material blessings without the problems they can cause. (Pro. 15:6)

14. Righteousness causes God to hear your prayers. (Pro. 15:29) Righteousness causes important people to listen to what you say. (Pro. 16:13)

15. Righteousness makes your parents happy. (Pro. 23:24) Righteousness gives you boldness and confidence. (Pro. 28:1) Righteousness keeps you safe when the wicked are in control. The righteous person will endure long enough to see the wicked fall. (Pro. 29:16)
