Leonhard Kurz presents new art box

Fourth edition of the “Presentation” design collection to be released

Fürth/Germany, 16 October 2014: Leonhard Kurz is publishing the fourth edition of its “Presentation” art box. The new box, like its predecessors, consists of a combination of packaging samples and an artwork. With art box number four, Kurz once again wants to provide designers and product managers with fresh ideas for creative packaging design while also presenting them with a new collector's item. This year's art box comprises six individual packages centered on the design theme “Close Up”. They show natural or artificial structures like crystals, animal skin, engineering drawings or pipelines in close-up view. The up-close, unfamiliar view of these shapes and structures is intended to invite the viewer to change their perspective and find inspiration for exceptional packaging designs.

One face of each of the internal boxes presents a portion of an artwork. When arranged correctly, the six boxes reveal the complete image, in this case a photograph by the concept artist Barbara Engelhard in Fürth, where Kurz's headquarters is located. The image shows an apartment window with curtains, pot plants and decorative objects. The window forms a transition between the private and public spaces, and the close-up view presents the foreground objects without revealing what lies behind.

The packages have been finished with hot stamping foils and cold foils that emphasize and accentuate the character of the individual designs and the artwork. The “Crystals” box, for example, contains a hot stamping design with holographic structures that simulate the refraction of crystals; the construction lines on the “Construction” box, on the other hand, shimmer in steel gray with a cool satin sheen. Particular importance was placed on the tactile experience of the surfaces. To this end, the stamping die technologies of the Kurz subsidiary Hinderer and Muehlich have been used to implement artistic raised reliefs and impressions, large-area textures, and microstructures. Using overprinted cold foils and multi-level structured stampings, defamiliarization effects have been incorporated into the artwork that challenge the visual and tactile senses in equal measure.

Kurz will be presenting its new “Presentation” box for the first time at this year's Luxe Pack in Monaco on 27 - 29 October. Those who will miss the opportunity to secure their own copy there can request one by sending an email to . Kurz will be giving away the art boxes free of charge as long as stocks last.
