Level I: Water Exploration

Rhythmic breathing with or without support
Exit at the side of the pool
Flutter kick on front
Flutter kick on back
Front crawl arm action
Back crawl arm action
Combined stroke, front, using kick and alternating arm action for five yards
Combined stroke on back, using kick and choice of arm movements
Jump into pool from side unassisted, swim to lane line unassisted
Perform reaching and extension assist from deck

Level III: Stroke Readiness
Retrieve object from bottom in chest deep water
Deep water bobbing
Jump into deep water from side of pool
Dive from side of pool from kneeling or compact

Prone glide with push off for two body lengths

Swim front crawl, breathing as necessary, for 10
yards
Swim back crawl for 10 yards
Elementary backstroke for 10 yards, with or without

100 yards combined, non-stop swim
Demonstrate change of direction at wall
Demonstrate finishing technique at wall
Tread water with modified scissors, modified
breaststroke, and rotary kick for two minutes
Correct usage of backstroke flags
Kneeling dive off blocks
Demonstrate rescue breathing without mouth contact Knowledge of pool safety and rescue rules including CPR
Level V: Stroke Refinement
Stride jump entry
Long shallow dive
Breaststroke for 100 yards
Elementary backstroke for 100 yards
Butterfly kick for 50 yards, kick board optional
Front crawl, 200 yards
Back crawl, 200 yards
Front flip turn
Back flip turn
Breaststroke turn
Racing starts from blocks and side of pool
Rules for safe diving from diving board
Tread water for five minutes using two different
