SW TIC Meeting

February 19, 2016

The Meeting was hosted by Richele Shepard, Wellspring, and Anya Senetra, from the Greene Co. ESC.

Laura Baxter, Exec. Director of Project Woman, Clark Co. DOmestic Violence Shelter.

Laura shared the services provided through the shelter, which are comprehensive and empowering. Sensitive to language being used, how information is being shared.

Their goal is to help the Individuals they are serving understand how trauma has effect them. They have created a handout - how domestic violence impacts person, how trauma has effected you. All services are voluntary. Self directed approach. How do EBP fit into shelter work, focus on comfort & respite. Move at the person's own pace, not push. Longer shelter stays if the person needs this can result in longer independent living- shelter to transitional to permanent housing has increased.

Ohio Domestic Violence Network - connects with the shelters. They gather feedback from residents. The shelter should be like home. Train staff mostly direct care staff, including the receptionist. Partner with other organizations in the county, one example is TIC Training to First Responders. Other examples of past or upcoming training: Alan Berkowitz - will present on bystanders & reactions; and Rachel Rameraz- Ethics and Trauma.

Officers get free counseling in their counties. Police working on being more sensitive. Hagen institution at Wittenberg College. This summer – host a two day training event. Provide mental health services – in schools, increasing TIC focus. TIC Learning Community is being developed. OACCA - sponsored Dr. Dan Hughes; others use Chris Buffington. They offer PAX Good Behavior game, good prevention tools. Supports better interactions. Level 1 & 2 from Bill Steele's training. Trainers from the Center for Trauma & Loss, Jennifer Marcowitz & others developed a program that is first responder approach, traumatic event crisis intervention model (tesip). Post-vention approach.
