INTERRUPTERS

What’s an interrupter you may ask? Well, an interrupter is a word, phrase, or clause that significantly breaks the flow of a sentence. You usually use it to add more information.

Interrupters are separated with commas or dashes.

EX: Hennery the lonely owl flew in the night.

EX: Chocolate-broccoli muffins though a good source of vitamin C are really gross.

Chocolate-broccoli muffins—though a good source of vitamin C—are really gross.

As I said before interrupters are used to add information.

EX: Max was hungry. Why was he hungry?

Max, who was running late and had to skipped breakfast, was hungry. We have now explained why Max was hungry in one sentence.
