KATY BRAND BIOG

Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show is back in September 2008 for its second series and sees Katy presenting a hilarious raft of brand new characters and brilliant celebrity parodies, as well as music spoofs.

Katy Brand started out on her road to comic stardom with her acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Festival performance Celebrities Are Gods in 2005, where she road tested her original characters such as Captain Rosie and fine tuned the celebrity parodies that have become her trade mark. Following success and acclaim in Edinburgh, Katy became a regular in the Ealing Live! Comedy team and continued her rise to fame, writing and performing her own Comedy Lab 'Slap' for Channel 4.

The first series of Katy’s Big Ass show proved to be a critical and ratings success, and amongst the most popular sketches, her spot-on music spoofs of chart toppers such as Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen, caused phone lines at Radio 1 to crash when 1000s of callers rang into request ‘the new Lily Allen song’, much to Katy’s amusement.

In between her own series, Katy appeared as the voice of Victoria Beckham on ITV’s Headcases, as well as in the highly regarded Radio 4 series Mouth Trap. Katy is a regular contributor to numerous Radio 4 comedy shows and has appeared in both series of the Hollow Men, (who also contribute to her show). Other TV credits include appearances in TittyBangBang and Peep Show, as well as Rob Brydon’s brilliant Annually Retentive.

This autumn Katy returns to ITV2 with her second series of Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show and will unveil all new music parodies including another outing for Amy Winehouse alongside new pokes-of-fun at none other than Mika, Leona Lewis, Kate Nash, Take That and even the Ting Tings, as well as more from Sadie, Stella and Kate Moss, Captain Rosie, Jesus’ Girlfriend and new characters such as The Queen.

KATY BRAND INTERVIEW

What have you been up to since the last series of Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show?

I wrote and performed a Radio 4 comedy show called Mouthtrap with Katherine Parkinson, which was a lot of fun. I have mainly been writing series two of the Big Ass Show, and also squeezed in trips to India and Egypt – keeping it real, yeah?

What new characters can viewers expect to see this series?

So much new stuff, I don’t know where to start. There’s loads of music – four times as much as in the first series, including Adele, The Ting Tings and Leona Lewis. We’ve also got the Queen, who talks and thinks like Alan Sugar; a couple of rubbish Victorian Prostitutes; an Olympic hopeful; Lily Allen and Keira Knightley. I could go on…

Which characters are returning and how have they developed?

Kate Winslet is back, but she’s on a film set. Captain Rosie is still trying to get to grips with the civilian world and failing. Kate Moss and her mates are at Fashion College and Stella is finally growing up. Jesus’s Girlfriend is pregnant, and she doesn’t know if it belongs to Jesus or Matthew…

Which of your characters do you have the most fun with and why?

I always love doing the pop promos, because I love singing and the costumes are amazing.

Is there a celebrity missing from your line up?

I am hoping to include a terrifyingly accurate portrayal of Christoper Biggins at some point in the future.

Is there a celebrity you wouldn’t include?

I prefer to stick to A-listers only. Laughing at people who are broke and miserable feels a bit like kicking a puppy.

Have you had any feedback from any of the stars you’ve featured?

No, not at all. Although I have hidden at a couple of parties to avoid awkward moments.

Where does your inspiration for the series come from?

All around – magazines, websites, my friends and the inside of my own head. It’s a good way of dealing with the little things about myself that really annoy me.

What is your highlight of the series so far?

Finding out that after two hours of hair and make-up, I look EXACTLY like the Queen.
