State Parks Mission: The State Park Division will protect and enhance natural resources, provide recreational facilities and opportunities, and promote public safety and education to benefit and enrich the lives of visitors.

Department Goals:
1. To make our state a leader in developing reliable supplies of energy, and energy efficient technologies and practices, with a balanced approach towards conserving our renewable and non-renewable resources,
2. To protect the environment and ensure responsible reclamation of land and resources affected by mineral extraction,
3. To be effective in leading our state in growing healthy, sustainable forests and managing them for a variety of users and ecologically sound uses, and
4. To improve the state park system into a nationwide leader that protects New Mexico's natural, cultural and recreational resources for posterity and contributes to a sustainable economy statewide.

Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with coordination & administration of the federal Recreation Trails Grants Program, and to implement State Trails System Act, coordination, planning, construction, and maintenance of trails within State Parks and on other state, federal and private lands where appropriate and to provide assistance with consistent oversight, development, implementation & distribution of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) to maintain eligibility for federal funds.

Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico and is nestled in the foothills, at the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 7,000 feet. The city occupies 33.4 square miles in a valley above the Rio Grande amongst mountains that reach to over 12,000 feet. Thousands of acres of National Forest and wilderness surround the city, and yet it is only an hour's drive to the Albuquerque International Airport. Known as the "City Different," Santa Fe supports both historic culture and modern technology, while offering an outstanding quality of life for both young and old. It is the oldest state capital in the country, founded in 1610, and at one time all lands west of the Mississippi were governed from the Palace of the Governors on the Santa Fe Plaza.

Educational requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Natural Resources, Planning or Recreation. (Please enter your education level on the Education and Work Experience page of the application even when submitting a resume).

Experience

2 years experience in grant and contract management, with administrative, planning and public relations skills and public speaking and/or 2 years experience in planning or implementing trails projects.

Employment Requirements

Valid NM driver’s license.

Working Environment

Office work to include computer and essential office equipment use and deskwork, occasional lifting; field work to include driving long distances and extensive walking to conduct project evaluations and inspections on project sites.
