JOB TITLE: Administrative Intern

SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

CONTRACT: 210 Days

GENERAL STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Administrative Intern assists the principal in all phases of operation in the school including: instructional leadership; school-wide behavior management programs; curriculum development and implementation; budget, and other areas related to the general operation of the school. The completion of these tasks may frequently require work before and after the regular school day.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Administrative Intern will report to the Director of Elementary/Secondary Education and will be evaluated in consultation by the principal of primary building assignment.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

The Administrative Intern supervises areas of activity and classified personnel as designated by the principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Administrative Intern conducts the following major functions as assigned by the building principal:

1. Assists the principal in the development of staff and peer coaching related to effective instructional practices.

2. Assists the principal in the development, coordination and implementation of school-wide behavior management plans and coordinates activities of staff related to individual student management issues as assigned by the principal.

3. Assists the principal with general management as assigned (e.g. covering classes, scheduling, conducting inventory, ordering materials, handling safety committee, accident reports, etc.).

4. Chairs or attends meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and insuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.

5. Coordinates or assists with the organization and supervision of special programs/activities (e.g. field trips, festivals, science fairs, etc.).

6. Communicates with a wide variety of personnel (e.g. parents, staff, students, other district personnel, public, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, problem solving and maintaining a positive view of the school both internally and externally.

7. Manages a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, student safety, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations within district guidelines.

8. Prepares and presents materials/information (e.g. student incident reports, schedules, correspondence, audits, etc.) to a wide variety of personnel for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information, gaining feedback and ensuing adherence to district policies and procedures.

9. Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine program/service effectiveness.

10. Participate in the interviewing, selection, orientation and recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.

11. Monitor and work with the students who are excessively absent, using school district policies for attendance.

12. Ability to attend extracurricular activities scheduled during the day and/or in the evening.

13. Participate in community activities (to the extent possible and appropriate) that foster rapport and mutual respect between the district and the larger community. Emphasize and nurture two-way communication between the school and the community.

14. Continue to pursue leadership opportunities that will enhance decision making, strengthen communication and interpersonal skills.

15. Ability to keep current on changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals/other publications and discussing concerns of mutual interest with others in the field.

1. Performs any other duties as assigned by building principal.

Education and Experience:

1. Successful teaching experience.

2. Successful administrative or supervisory experience desirable.

3. Must hold a Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree (preferred) from an accredited administrator training college or university.

4. Hold a valid Oregon administrator license.
