SUBJECT: Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Béjar as Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs. In this position, Elizabeth will work with the current leadership to promote the goals of academic affairs, work as a liaison to coordinate and plan the future of the academic areas focusing on the University’s mission to serve our students, our research enterprise, and our South Florida community, while striving for operational excellence. As a member of the Provost staff, she will be working directly with Executive Vice Provost Wartzok to accomplish the many tasks that lie before us as well as provide support and resolution to the daily operational issues within Academic Affairs.

Elizabeth joined FIU in 2003 as Assistant Dean for the College of Health and Urban Affairs. In her role, she established an enrollment management model for the College, created and implemented an institutional research office to support the data needs of the academic units, and worked to streamline the policy agenda for the College.

Prior to joining FIU, Ms. Béjar served the state of Massachusetts as an Academic Policy Analyst for the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. During her tenure there she worked on various academic affairs areas such as academic program review, student financial assistance, workforce development, and student life. Ms. Béjar holds degrees in psychology, international development of education and is currently a doctoral candidate at the Boston College Lynch School of Education.
