FROM: John Doe

SUBJECT: Instructions for mowing tee boxes

Introduction

This instruction explains the correct procedure and necessary equipment for mowing the tee boxes. Before you begin, review the drawing at right. Notice the arrow on the tee box points in a direction parallel to the center of the fairway for four- and five-par holes and parallel to the center of the green on three-par holes. You will need to check with the setup person for pin locations for the day to set the tee markers properly.

Necessary Equipment

You should have the following items prior to checking the mower:

· Hearing protection

· Pin location chart

· Knowledge of pin placement location

Warning: Do not check rotation of reels with engine running.

Check the following on the mower:

· Fuel level: Fill if required.

· Oil level: Fill if required.

· Tires: Inflate to PSI indicated on sidewall.

· Cutting reels: Should rotate freely. Adjust if required.

Note: Notify maintenance personnel immediately if any problems are found with oil level, tire pressure, or rotation of the cutting reels.

Procedure

This procedure describes the correct approach, mowing, and finishing steps required to properly mow the tee box.

Approaching Tee Box

1Approach the tee box from a direction that points you parallel to the center of the fairway or green.

a. Remove tee markers, if necessary.

b. Line up to begin mowing less than one mower’s width from the edge of tee box.

1. Mowing

a. Engage mower reels.

b. Start moving forward along intended line.

Note: Allow the mower reels to clear the edge of the tee box prior to performing next step.

c. Lower the cutting reels to begin mowing.

d. Mow straight along line until reels approach far edge of tee box.

e. Slow down and raise the reels near the edge of the tee box.

Warning: Exercise caution while performing next step as mower may flip over.

f. Turn mower around so that you align the mower to go in the opposite direction allowing for a small overlap of the cutting reels along the just mowed path.

g. Repeat steps c, d, e, and f until you are within one mower’s width from other edge of tee box.

h. Align the outside edge of the reel with the inside edge of the tee box.

i. Mow once completely around the inside edge of the tee box.

j. Raise mower reels.

k. Disengage mower reels.

2. Finishing

a. Refer to the pin location chart.

b. Place tee markers similar to pin location. For example, if the pin is located in the front, place tee markers in the front part of tee box.

c. Space tee markers approximately fifteen (15) feet or six (6) paces apart perpendicular to the center of the fairway or green.

d. Pick up any broken tees and other debris and dispose of properly.
