Job Title: Research Associate (1 year, renewable)

Faculty: Imperial College Business School

Grade: Academic and Research, Level B

Reports to: Academic staff member; Centre for Global Finance and Technology

Key Working Relationships: Business School and Imperial College Academic & Research Staff, Data Science Institute Staff, Corporate Partners, Fintech Community

Imperial College Business School wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work within the Centre for Global Finance and Technology. The Centre serves as a hub for multidisciplinary research, business education and global outreach aimed at greater understanding of the impact of technology on finance, business and society. The Centre’s Director is Professor Andrei Kirilenko. The role of the Research Associate is to work with Academics and the Centre’s Director on research, educational and outreach projects related to the application of blockchain distributed ledger technology to finance.

Key Responsibilities:

The Research Associate will be based in London and work within an interdisciplinary research team, in close collaboration with colleagues at Imperial College, the fintech community, and other research organisations.

Duties will focus on conducting and publishing research in finance, statistics, computer science, operations research, mathematics and other relevant fields; supporting translation of research into impact on business and society; and assisting with the preparation and delivery of educational materials, modules and programs. Candidates must explicitly indicate how their research, professional work or publications are related to blockchain and its applications to finance.

The job will involve working jointly with Centre’s Director across major disciplines, including, but nor limited to finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, operations research, and organisational behaviour. The following lists illustrate expected duties associated with research, translation of research into impact, and education:

Research:

· Planning and carrying out research in accordance with project aims

· Literature review and monitoring trade & academic journals

· Observation, interviews or archival data collection

· Preparing data for analysis

· Analyses involving theory, modelling, simulation, or other appropriate methods

· Leading on at least one academic paper per year and contributing to others from the team

· Complying with relevant College policies, including Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities Policy, Promoting Race Equality Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Information Systems Security Policy and Intellectual Property Rights and Register of Interests Policies.

Translation:

· Co-authoring publications that describe research for broader audiences

· Presenting research to industry

· Preparing for the Centre’s advisory board, research conferences, programme meetings and draft reports

Education:

· Preparing and delivering relevant educational materials, modules and programs

· Assisting with the development of relevant case studies, lectures and courses

Experience

The Researcher should demonstrate proven knowledge and skills in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, operations and/or other relevant fields. The Researcher will need to liaise with colleagues from across the Business School and Imperial College, as well as linking closely with the fintech industry, regulators, and academics. A strong command of relevant research methods and proven communication skills is a must.

· An excellent first degree and/or PhD together with relevant degree experience are required.
