Case Manager for Victims of Human Trafficking

Outreach and Support to Special Immigrant Populations (OSSIP)

0.75 FTE: 30 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

Reports to: OSSIP Project Coordinator

Outreach and Support to Special Immigrant Populations (OSSIP) is a comprehensive assistance program for foreign-born survivors of human trafficking. OSSIP provides intensive case management and legal services, assisting survivors in successfully obtaining the benefits to which they may be entitled under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA). The OSSIP Case Manager team works closely with the OSSIP immigration attorney to provide quality services to the clients in our care.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinate case management services to newly identified victims of human trafficking. Case management services include:

o Comprehensive assessment of client needs

o Development of Individualized Client Service Plans

o Advocacy / Liaison between client and community social services

o Coordination with OSSIP legal team

o Ensure that case files are professionally maintained – including appropriate case notes and regular updating of files

2. Ensure that clients receive adequate Cultural Orientation - including basic survival skills such as how to pay bills, manage a bank checking account, utilize community services such as the post office and library, telephone cards, debit cards, understand public transportation, budgeting, etc.

3. In coordination with the OSSIP team, the OSSIP Case Manager will assist in the development of trainings on human trafficking for social service providers, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, health care providers, leaders in the faith communities, and other individuals and professionals who are likely to come into contact with victims of trafficking.

4. Provide support to the OSSIP Immigration Attorney in coordinating with clients and filing client legal work.

5. In coordination with the OSSIP Project Coordinator, the OSSIP Case Manager will effectively represent Catholic Charities and the OSSIP Program at community functions and at other events as requested.

6. Supervise and support all OSSIP interns and volunteers.

7. Other duties as assigned by the OSSIP Project Coordinator.

Qualifications

1. Bilingual English and Spanish is required.

2. Master’s degree in social work is preferred; bachelors degree and experience in related field are required.

3. Sensitivity to and experience working with vulnerable populations, such as victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, is required; experience working with victims of trafficking is preferred.

4. Ability to convey concern and establish a trusting, caring relationship with clients with active listening and supportive communication is required.

5. Ability to communicate effectively among diverse populations – from trafficking victims to service providers, law enforcement and government agencies.

6. Must have the ability to prioritize client needs, meet deadlines, problem solve and juggle multiple tasks effectively.

7. Strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to detail is critical.

8. General office experience and basic computer skills including Outlook & Microsoft Office programs are essential.

9. Experience with low-income and ethnically diverse populations; the ability to assess the needs of clients from various cultures is also required.

10. Must have the ability to work independently, as well as coordinate and communicate openly as a member of the OSSIP team.

11. Ability to work well under pressure is required.

12. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage at or above levels required by the agency.

Pay Rate:

$15.38 per hour, with full benefit package. 30 hours/week.
