IBE Summer Celebration draws Zeta Phi Beta Sorority National Leadership Conference
INDIANAPOLIS –The Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration is a prime time for family and class reunions in the Circle City. In recent years, corporations, business organizations, fraternities, sororities and church groups have increasingly taken advantage of the festivities in planning meetings and conferences.
This year is no different. The national leadership of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will incorporate its National Summer Leadership Training and undergraduate retreat into the 43rd Annual Summer Celebration – arriving in Indianapolis July 17th and staying through Sunday, July 21st. This conference alone will be responsible for thousands of visitors during the summer gala.
Zeta leadership programming organizers said 350 registrants were initially projected. But largely because of the appeal of the training conference coinciding with Summer Celebration, that number has more than tripled and is still rising.
The sorority’s top official, International Grand Basileus Mary ‘Breaux Wright stated, “As we, the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. convene, we are excited about the opportunity to participate in the Indiana Black Expo, honoring Indiana’s and the nation’s rich African American legacy.”
IBE President & CEO Tanya Bell – a proud member of the sorority - said such collaborations enhance both events and significantly impact the benefit for the City of Indianapolis.
Bell said, “The fact that numbers increased translates into more hotel rooms, increased purchasing from downtown merchants, more diners at local restaurants and people who will return home buoyed by the experience, becoming enthusiastic ambassadors for Indianapolis. While I am grateful for all of our past and present collaborations, this one is special because of my personal affiliation as a member.”
This year’s Summer Celebration will kick off Thursday, July 11th with an Ecumenical Service at Light of the World Church and will include over the 11 days and 65 events a stellar line-up of celebrity guests such as Jill Scott, Billy Dee Williams, the O’Jays, Midnight Star, Spike Lee, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Kevon Edmonds, Whodini and many others. There will also be a Business Conference which starts July 15th and an Educational Conference July 18th.
