A. IB Learner Profile – Individual Traits Review Activities:

Trait / Possible Focus Activities
Caring / ·  Synthesis: Think of a time when someone was caring towards you. How did it make you feel?
·  Application: How could you demonstrate to someone else that you are caring?
Risk Taker / ·  Synthesis: Why is it important to be a risk taker sometimes in life? When could it be dangerous to be a risk taker?
Balanced / ·  Application: What tools or support systems do you have at school and at home to help you balance your life?
Inquirer / ·  Comprehension: How many different synonyms (words that mean the same thing but are spelled differently) can you come up with for the Inquirer trait?
Knowledgeable / ·  Synthesize: Imagine that only certain people in each town or city across the US were allowed access to knowledge and they were not allowed to share it. How would that make you feel? How would that make your life different?
Reflective / ·  Analysis: Read the following famous quote from a song by reggae artist, Bob Marley: “If you don’t know your past, you don’t know your future”. Explain how this quote supports the ideas of the reflective trait?
Principled / ·  Creativity and Knowledge: Create an acrostic poem that helps explain the meaning of the Principled trait
Thinker / ·  Analysis: “I haven't failed. I've found 10,000 ways that don't work.” ThomasEdison. Would you classify Edison as a Thinker? Why or why not?
Communicator / ·  Knowledge: Communication is extremely important in our world. Name as many different forms of communication that you can.
Open Minded / ·  Create: Draw a picture or visual that would help someone understand what it means to be open minded

B. IB Learner Profile – Comprehensive Traits Review Activities

IB Learner Profile Review & Kinesthetic Symbols (approx 45 minutes)

1.  Students will use the Kinesthetic Symbols activity to help them review the IB Learner Profile Traits

2.  Arrange students into teams of 2-3 (10 groups total)

3.  Have copies of the IB Learner Profile traits in front of them.

4.  Explain that some students learn best by using movement and/or doing things – kinesthetically. Today’s review activity will give all students a chance to review and learn through movement.

5.  Tell students that each team will be responsible for creating a kinesthetic (movement/body) symbol for one of the IB Learner Profile traits.

6.  Model a kinesthetic symbol for students for one of the traits (for example, a kinesthetic symbol for “Caring” could be to wrap your arms around your body as if you were giving yourself a hug OR making the shape of a heart with your hands –

a.  challenge teams to come up with another possibility for “Caring”.

7.  If teams are ready, let them get to work on their own creating their own symbols for their traits. If they need more guidance, do another one together!

8.  When all teams are done, let them take turns presenting their symbol
