CHSE Standard 11.1.b. the creation of the human services profession.
CSHSE Standard 11.1. c. Historical and current legislation affecting services delivery. / This course provides a brief overview of the history of mental health treatment in general and then provides a more detailed history of each approach to counseling. Current mental health professionals and delivery are also discussed in detail.

CSHSE Standard 12.b. (1) How small groups are used in Human services settings.
CSHSE Standard 12.c. Changing family structures and roles.
CSHSE Standard 12.e. An understanding of the capacities, limitations, and resiliency of human systems.
CSHSE Standard 12.f. Emphasis on context and the role of diversity in determining and meeting human needs. / Human development is explored through lectures on psychoanalytic approaches. Changing family structures and roles is reviewed in the section on family systems therapy. The use of group therapy is discussed as related to each approach as well. Diversity and resiliency are discussed as related to each approach.

CSHSE Standards 13.c. The major models used to conceptualize and integrate prevention, maintenance, intervention, rehabilitation, and healthy functioning.
CSHSE Standard 13.e. Political and ideological aspects of human services. / At least 8 or 9 models of therapy are discussed and practiced focusing on the types of clients best suited for each approach. As needed, political aspects are discussed, especially in the ethics and professional section of the course.

Using technology for word processing, sending email, and locating and evaluating information. / In this course, students practice and observe interviews, active listening and learn about the importance of confidentiality. They use email to correspond with the instructor and in chat rooms online.
CSHSE Standard 15.a. Analysis and assessment of the needs of clients or client groups. / This course discusses how to assess the needs of clients according to the model being taught that week.

Maintaining behaviors that are or are not congruent with the ethics of the profession. / In this course, student practice counseling skills in role plays and observe the instructor demonstrating live counseling sessions. They always view films that demonstrate counseling. They receive feedback from others regarding behaviors that are or are not congruent with the ethics of the profession of counseling related to each approach studied.
