Job Title: Director, Marine Technology/Engineering
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Director, Marine Technology position is responsible for the oversight and operation of the Department of Marine Technology/Engineering. This position is also responsible for teaching various Marine Technology-Engineering courses. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dean, Marine Science and Technology.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Plans, organizes, administers and evaluates the College’s Marine Technology/Engineering programs, services, resources and staff.
2. Provides leadership for instructional staff of the Marine Technology/Engineering Department. Reviews and supervises the hiring of instructional, professional and career staff positions and participates in faculty and staff evaluations. Coordinates with appropriate staff for personnel action recommendations.
3. Oversees staff and program development in all Marine Technology/Engineering areas to support and implement program and personnel professional growth.
4. Oversees Marine Technology /Engineering department Faculty members, including Adjunct faculty and ensures employees licenses and certifications required for the job are current and up-to-date. Maintains documentation of such and ensures personnel files in Human Resources also are up-to-date.
5. Develops annual Marine Technology/Engineering budget recommendations according to established procedures consistent with College goals and objectives. Allocates, monitors and controls assigned program budgets and expenditures.
6. Develops, implements and updates curriculum as needed. Keeps current with instructional services program issues in community colleges.
7. Prepares annual program reviews and promotes departmental initiatives in accordance with the divisional strategic plan.
8. Teaches up to three (3 credit equivalent) courses throughout each term.
9. Collaborates with Student Services, Distance Learning and the Information Technology department to ensure that information systems are appropriate for academic purposes and responsive to student and instructional needs.
10. Supports and communicates the College’s mission and maintains professional affiliation and involvement in local, state and regional organizations.
11. Oversees maintenance of Marine Technology facilities and equipment. Establishes and monitors facility usage guidelines.
12. Coordinates and maintains appropriate academic credentials and instructional standards required for accreditation, and policy and procedure requirements of local, state, and federal agencies.
13. Participates as a member of College Committees as assigned.
14. Attends State and Federal Conferences as assigned.
15. Attends training as assigned and/or required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Bachelor’s degree from and accredited institution, in Marine related field. Master’s degree preferred.
§ Five years experience in related field.
§ Three years prior teaching experience preferred.
§ Three years supervisory experience preferred.
§ Knowledge of large vessel (up to 100 GT) operations, systems analysis, repair and maintenance.
§ Knowledge of small watercraft operations, repair and maintenance.
§ Knowledge of procedures, reports, forms and reporting requirements.
§ Knowledge of curriculum, teaching methods, learning strategies, competency-based instruction, evaluation techniques which contribute to continuing program improvement.
§ Ability to conduct educational needs assessments surveys which produce reliable information.
§ Ability to design, organize and oversee delivery of courses and programs.
§ Ability to supervise staff and instructional personnel.
§ Skill in working with individuals and groups to serve the needs of the community and to provide an educational program of high quality.
§ Skill in records management, budget management and short and long-range planning.
§ Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
§ Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer.
§ Ability to perform basic math calculations.
§ Certified in diving instruction preferred.
§ Currently Licensed Captain (minimum OUPV, Master 100 ton preferred)
